From 5G connectivity and upgraded floodlights to revamped concourses and digital menus, Newcastle United is transforming the fan experience through major, supporter-led stadium infrastructure and accessibility improvements.
Newcastle United have announced a wide-ranging programme of improvements at St James' Park, with the club saying the changes are being driven largely by supporter feedback gathered throughout the season.
According to the club, thousands of fans have submitted comments after home matches, highlighting both positive experiences and areas needing improvement. The feedback has reportedly been reviewed by the club’s Supporter Services team and shared internally to help shape future developments around the stadium and matchday experience.
Among the most significant changes is the completion of a full stadium public address system upgrade. The project, carried out over several years, has now unified the sound system across the ground in an effort to improve clarity and consistency for supporters in all seating areas.
The club has also confirmed plans to replace all floodlights at the stadium ahead of next season. The updated lighting system is expected to improve visibility during matches while also allowing for expanded pre-match light and entertainment displays.
Connectivity improvements are also underway, with work beginning on the rollout of full 5G coverage across the stadium. Surveys and design work have already been completed, and installation is expected to take between nine and 12 months. Signal has always been poor within the ground and in a day where connectivity via social media is important to most fans, this will be welcome news.
Inside the concourses, Newcastle United say it has begun installing digital menu screens at food and drink kiosks, with a target of equipping all kiosks with the technology over the next year.
The club has also continued to expand food and beverage facilities throughout the ground. Former betting kiosks in the North Stand have been converted into bars and food outlets, with additional conversions planned elsewhere in the stadium. Click-and-collect ordering has been introduced in the South Stand and Platinum Suite, while wheelchair users can now use a dedicated ordering and delivery service designed to improve accessibility on matchdays.
Supporters will also see a broader range of food and drink options, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal products, alongside non-dairy milk alternatives and decaffeinated drinks. A new online availability map has also been launched to help fans locate specific food and drink outlets around the stadium.
Additional behind-the-scenes upgrades include more tills to reduce waiting times, improved draught systems at bars, upgraded kitchen equipment and the introduction of new branded drink stations across the concourses.
Elsewhere, toilet facilities are being refurbished with improved lighting, upgraded flooring and newer hand dryers aimed at increasing reliability and energy efficiency.
The club also confirmed that more than 10,000 seats have been replaced inside the stadium since 2021. A further 2,000 seats in the North and South Stand paddocks have been upgraded this season, with more seating improvements planned in the coming years.
Newcastle United say the wider programme forms part of an ongoing effort to modernise the stadium and improve the overall supporter experience at St. James’ Park. These changes are being made whilst the club continue to look into the feasibility of either extending St Jame's Park or building a new stadium.
