PIF leaders descend on Matfen Hall for a critical summit, dissecting this season's woes and plotting a title-challenging future under Eddie Howe.

A summit that would normally be a standard get-together for the ownership and leadership team at Newcastle United will this season be host to a postmortem of what has gone wrong this season after seeing results on the pitch fall below what everyone expected. In attendance will be Newcastle United Chairman and PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Board member and PIF’s Head of Europe Direct Investments, Co-owner & Board member Jamie Reuben, CEO David Hopkinson, Sporting Director Ross Wilson & Head Coach Eddie Howe. Unlike last year, the club has booked out the whole of the hotel after journalists were able to access it.

Focus will be centred on how to get Newcastle back on track to meet the ownership’s target to be challenging for titles by 2030. Eddie Howe will be asked to go over what has gone wrong this season and what his plans are to fix this and how he sees the club on the pitch challenging for honours.

Both Ross Wilson & Eddie Howe will present their aims regarding the transfer market, including targets, players who can or need to be sold, and what any player will bring to the squad. Strategies will be discussed as to how the club will best execute their transfer plans this summer. The club will be braced for a summer in which the club will have to adopt a sell-to-buy approach to remain competitive.

The PIF delegation, along with Jamie Reuben and CEO David Hopkinson, will be discussing crucial operational matters, including the strategy for the club’s front-of-kit sponsorship with Sela’s deal ending at the end of the season, developments on the decision to either extend St James’ Park or build a new stadium, and the new training centre is likely to focus heavily, with an announcement on this expected shortly.

Eddie Howe, when asked about the summit, said: ”It’s something that happens regularly, so it's nothing out of the norm for us. I always like the chance to talk directly to the owners and to express things from my perspective. It's something we have always done, and I look forward to that next week. A big week on and off the pitch at Newcastle United! Hopefully, we get some important decisions made!
