Confirmation has emerged of a mid-season friendly triumph for Nottingham Forest.
Details have emerged confirming that Nottingham Forest played Swansea City in a mid-season friendly.
John Percy confirmed that Forest faced the Championship leaders in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Saturday as they gear up for a return to club football this weekend.
Forest emerged as 2-0 victors in the friendly, which was seen as an opportunity to maintain fitness, and help those returning to action following a period on the sidelines.
Nikola Milenkovic steps up injury return
One such beneficiary of this was Nikola Milenkovic, who played 45 minutes in the game as he prepares for a return to competitive action, having not featured since September 5 due to a hamstring issue picked up in training.
His injury saw Milenkovic absent from Serbia's squad for the international break, which is what presented Saturday's friendly as an ideal opportunity to bolster his return to action with minutes on the pitch.
There is an expectation that the 28-year-old will be ready to face Crystal Palace in Forest's first game back after the international break, on Sunday.
English duo on the scoresheet
The game was not just about players returning from injury, as it also offered an opportunity for other players to keep positive form building ahead of the return of competitive club football.
Both James McAtee and record signing Liam Delap have enjoyed strong starts to the season, and they were both on the scoresheet against the Welsh side.
McAtee has so far enjoyed a strong resurgence, after admittedly struggling last term, his first on Trentside, while Delap has largely hit the ground running since his big-money arrival from Chelsea in the summer.
Keeping both in top fitness, but also top form, is seen as a wholly important step to ensure Forest can get back on the right foot after a disappointing home defeat against Coventry City before the break,
Return to club football
Forest return to Premier League action on Sunday, 11 October, when they visit Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace.
The Reds are currently 13th in the league after five games, and will be hoping to climb the table after a mixed bag of form at the start of Oliver Glasner's tenure as head coach.
With no European football, and Forest being out of the Carabao Cup, they will enjoy a relatively calm schedule, in comparison to many of their Premier League rivals.
Of course, they will, however, enter the FA Cup third round later in the season, offering another run at a trophy, not that that should be the Reds' primary objective this season.
