Neco Williams has addressed his future, pledging "full commitment" to Nottingham Forest as transfer rumours persist.
Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams has pledged his continued commitment to the club amid transfer interest being shown in him.
Williams has been the subject of strong transfer interest throughout the summer, with Tottenham Hotspur thought to be the side most interested in securing his services.
But, following the big-money sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City, in a club-record £116 million deal earlier this summer, it would take a huge offer to prise away another of the club's best talents, especially this late in the window.
Although every player has a price, the expectation remains for the 25-year-old to remain on Trentside this season.
Speaking after the game, Williams was asked directly about rumours linking him with a move away before Tuesday's deadline.
Although he did not go as far as to categorically rule it out, the wingback did reaffirm his commitment to Forest.
“Everyday I’m focused on the badge I’m wearing right now," he insisted, "and that’s Forest, and that’s all I can do.
“Of course, it’s nice to see that there’s interest and teams showing interest, but at the end of the day I’m a Nottingham Forest player and I'm fully focused on what I have to do here and just showing full commitment every day and giving my best to help the team.”
Crucial role at Forest
Williams played an integral role in the Reds' 2-2 draw against his former club Liverpool on Saturday.
He denied a goal with a crucial challenge on Cody Gakpo in the box, before later winning the penalty which put Forest 2-1 up; a reminder of his importance to the club.
Williams has been on Trentside for four years, following his 2022 arrival from Liverpool, and has always played a significant role. But in recent seasons, his importance to Forest has become paramount.
He has only missed four Premier League games in the last two seasons combined, with his availability and consistent level becoming second nature to Reds fans.
Throughout this time, his role has evolved. Having started his career, and time at Forest, as a right-back, but in the 2024/25 campaign, he shifted to the left-hand side, and has predominantly remained there ever since.
New contract talks
Far from entertaining discussions about his exit, Forest remain keen to renew Williams' contract.
His current deal does not expire until the summer of 2029, meaning that Forest are under no pressure, but tying such an important figure on and off the pitch down to a new deal would be a sizeable boost.
Exits likely
Glasner has admitted that the club are working on potential outgoings, due to the large size of his Forest squad.
“It’s always about trying to find the best solutions for the players. This is what the players deserve.
“I mentioned when I arrived that the squad is very big. We have had a few loans [out] now and Taiwo [Awoniyi] left for Coventry.
“It’s also just fair, because we don’t play European football and we don’t have a massive amount of games this season. Players want to play, and players should play.
“Against Liverpool, I have to leave three or four players at home. They train every day and give their best, and if it is not these four it will be another four [left out]."
Williams was not one of the four left out, obviously, but his comments and subsequent decision does raise doubts over the futures of Arnaut Kalimuendo, Morato and Omari Hutchinson, who were all left out and have been linked with moves elsewhere, either on loan or permanently.
