Daniel Muñoz has been confirmed as Nottingham Forest's sixth transfer arrival of the summer transfer window.
Nottingham Forest have confirmed the arrival of Daniel Muñoz following the completion of a £22 million deal with Crystal Palace.
The Colombian wingback has been a key target for the club since Oliver Glasner arrived as head coach in July, given their previous working together in south London.
After relatively brief negotiations, Muñoz travelled to Nottingham to undergo his medical on Sunday, and has now been confirmed as the Reds' sixth signing of the summer transfer window.
"This is a winning club"
Speaking to club media after his arrival, Muñoz made no secret of his excitement to be on Trentside.
He reflected on the talent in Forest's squad, and revealed his desire to win, which he noted aligns with the club's vision
“I’m really excited because I can see so much talent," he said. "Forest is a team with great players, great qualities and great skills on the pitch, I can’t wait to get out there so I can help my new teammates and I think that we’re going to do great things.
“The first thing is that this is a winning club. I think that when this is the expectation, the mentality, both for the management and the technical team, and for the players, this makes it special.
“It is a club that’s fought hard in recent years, it has competed hard, it got to the semi-finals of the Europa League and I think it has even greater objectives for the future, and really this is what I like about Forest, and that’s why I decided to come here.”
Mentality and ambition key
Nottingham Forest's Chief Football Officer, George Syrianos, also spoke after news of the transfer was confirmed, and noted that Muñoz's mentality and ambition makes him the perfect fit for the club.
“Daniel is a player who has consistently demonstrated his quality at the highest level, and we are delighted to bring him to Nottingham Forest," he revealed.
“Daniel has performed strongly in the Premier League and in European competition, and we believe he has the mentality and ambition to make a significant contribution to the club.
“We are very pleased to welcome him to the Club and look forward to him integrating with the squad.”
More additions possible
There is just over 24 hours until the transfer window slams shut, but there is a belief that Muñoz may not be the Reds' last assition.
Speaking after Forest drew 1-1 with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, Glasner revealed that there could be up to three more signings before Tuesday's deadline.
That means that up to two more signings could happen over the next 34 hours, though no deal appears forthcoming.
Forest had agreed a £35 million deal to sign Harrison Armstrong from Everton, but their fans' backlash led to the Toffees' board cancelling the deal after the 19-year-old had been given permission to undergo a medical.
The Reds had also tried their luck with an audacious bid to sign Dean Henderson on Saturday evening.
It was swiftly rejected, however, and Palace made it clear that they will not sanction the exit of their star goalkeeper and club captain so late in the transfer window.
Whether Forest pursue other midfielders or goalkeepers before the deadline remains to be seen, but there is clearly appetite for additions, if the right profiles can be attained.
A number of outgoings, including loans, are also expected before the transfer window slams shut.
