Oliver Glasner has conceded that Murillo is not in the shape he expected after returning from Brazil this summer.
Oliver Glasner has admitted that Murillo is not at the fitness level he would like following his long-term injury.
Murillo was sidelined for some four months with a hamstring injury, which curtailed his season early.
He featured in pre-season, but has so far struggled at times since the start of the new campaign.
The Brazilian defender had to be substituted in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, after James McAtee signalled to the bench for a change.
Speaking after the game, Glasner conceded that he did not return from summer in Brazil in the shape that the Austrian boss expected.
He alluded to Murillo enduring a difficult time during his rehabilitation, but insisted he is working very hard to rectify the issue.
"Murillo was out injured for four months," Glasner said. "He did not come back from Brazil in the shape he should have come back in, maybe, but he's now getting back to his full fitness.
"This is why, at the end of games, he's struggling a little bit, but it's okay. It's just like a footballer cramp."
"I don't want to talk about the situation, it is what it is. I came here very late as the manager, I was informed, and there are different reasons for things.
"Murillo had a very serious injury and then a setback in May, so there's a lot of frustration, and we all know what frustration can lead to.
"But he's now working very hard. Of course we spoke, and it doesn't make sense to blame or complaining, it's now [about] getting him back to full fitness.
"The Premier League is the Premier League, pre-season is completely different, you can see the intensity of the duels."
