Oliver Glasner remained tight-lipped on transfers, as he looks to avoid adding to "crazy" transfer fees.
Nottingham Forest head coach Oliver Glasner has talked about the "crazy" transfer prices as the Reds close in on their first signings.
Reports continue to swirl that Forest are advancing in talks to sign Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande.
The Côte d'Ivoire international has been one of the most sought-after central defenders in Europe in recent transfer windows and would represent a significant capture for Forest.
According to reports from both England and Portugal, Diomande is expected to command a fee in the region of £34 million.
While this is seen by many as a bargain, and great business by the club, Glasner was keen not to risk inflating that fee by speaking about any potential dealings.
Speaking after Forest's 3-0 pre-season win against Blackburn Rovers earlier on Wednesday, Glasner was tight-lipped on the Reds' transfer business, but offered tall praise for the club's recruitment team.
"I don't comment on any rumours,” Glasner said, via the Nottingham Post. “It doesn't make any sense to because tomorrow it will be the next one, then the next one.
"As soon as the ink is dry [on any deal], we will let you know. Right now, we are working with the players who are here. The transfer window is open for many more weeks, so many things can happen.”
"I don't want to talk about what we are discussing internally," he insisted. "I already think the prices are a little bit crazy sometimes, and it makes it even more expensive if you talk about names or positions.
"We have a great scouting department, and we talk about profiles that could help and that we probably don't have in the formation. If it's possible to add it, if we find it and it makes sense to do it, then we will try to finalise it. We are all very ambitious. We will see.”
Spearheading that ambition is Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who was present for today's friendly in the Algarve.
Just weeks after a high-end fish dinner in Athens, when Glasner was sold on a move to Forest by the Greek billionaire, the Austrian head coach revealed that he had joined Marinakis for another meal last night.
"He is a crucial part of the club," Glasner said, "So it is nice to see him here. We had a lovely dinner yesterday evening."
