Oliver Glasner has admitted that Arnaud Kalimuendo could leave, but insisted he has earned the chance to earn his place at Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest boss Oliver Glasner has insisted that Arnaud Kalimuendo has earned the chance to fight for his place at the club.
Kalimuendo fell out of favour at Forest in the second half of last season and was loaned to German side Eintracht Frankfurt for the remainder of the campaign.
In the Bundesliga, the French forward rediscovered excellent form, notching up six goals and an assist during his 19 appearances.
Frankfurt have not triggered their option to buy on the 24-year-old, but are thought to remain keen on signing him permanently.
Impressive pre-season showing has earned Kalimuendo the chance to impress
Kalimuendo played the entire second half of Forest's opening pre-season match and scored the Reds' second in a 2-0 win over Notts County.
As well as his goal, a well-headed effort in the box after a pinpoint Dilane Bakwa cross, Kalimuendo offered an assured showing.
It was not the performance of a player who does not belong, and Glasner made it clear post-match that he has earned the right to impress.
“Every player who’s here gets the chance to show up," Glasner insisted, "And so far everybody’s very ambitious and hardworking in training, and that’s why Kali deserves to play and show what he’s capable of.
“I think he had a fantastic game today. Not just the goal he scored; he also found some very good positions between the lines."
But Glasner refused to rule out his potential departure, and admitted that anything could happen with so long to go in the transfer window.
“The transfer market has just started to heat up, and we don’t really know what will happen in the next six weeks; so many things can happen.
“But right now he’s a Nottingham Forest player, and he gets the same chance as anybody else.”
