Nottingham Forest Women head coach Tom Mallinson has previewed his side's Subway Players Cup match against Aston Villa.

Nottingham Forest Women head coach Tom Mallinson has said he wants his side to dominate Aston Villa in their Subway Players Cup meeting.

Forest face Villa in their Subway Players Cup opener on Wednesday night, at the City Ground, in what is set to be a tough game.

Villa are in the WSL, a division above Forest, and have recorded encouraging draws away to both Brighton, and most notably Chelsea, so far this season, despite being yet to win a game.

Despite the difference in level, and size of the challenge at hand, Mallinson does not want his side to deviate from their usual objective of dominating teams.

"Every game we play, whether it's home or away, in the cup or in the league, we want to give a really good account of ourselves and we want to do the same things we would whether if it was a WSL2 game or against a WSL club in the cup," he insisted.

"We want to dominate the game, try and control it as best we can. There's going to be moments, obviously, where we can't do that, and we've shown that we can be incredibly resilient in those moments.

"So it's for us to go into the game full of confidence and full of a way that we want to conduct ourselves the best way we can and play our style of football as best we can."

Preparation to face Villa

After an uplifting comeback win over Durham at the weekend, Mallinson spoke about the group's recovery, and their excitement to face Villa on Wednesday.

"The camp's really excited and it was great to get three points on the board," Mallinson revealed.

"It was very much deserved as well, given the hard work that the players and staff have been putting in on the training pitch every day."

He later continued: "We've got a really resilient and hardworking group of players and staff, so our responsibility now is about how we can recover over the weekend, which we certainly did coming back from Durham, making sure everything was prepped the best way it could be.

"The same in the session today, the players have been excellent in training and taking on new ideas and different tactical elements, because we have to prepare quite quickly for Villa.

"Obviously, that's our biggest focus now; to try and put in a really strong performance against Villa in the cup."
