Spurs have accepted a €40 million bid for their captain, leaving the Italian giants to weigh a final decision after already bolstering their defense with John Stones.
Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan have reportedly agreed in principle on a transfer for Cristian Romero. Now, Inter must decide whether to go ahead with the deal.
According to reports from Argentina, the two clubs have agreed on a deal worth about €40 million for the Spurs captain. ESPN Argentina says Tottenham have accepted Inter’s offer for the 28-year-old defender.
The transfer is not finalised yet. On Monday morning, Fabrizio Romano shared an update: “Inter are expected to make final decision soon on Cuti Romero deal.”
Inter recently confirmed the signing of former Manchester City defender John Stones. The club now has more depth at centre-back, so the decision to make another big defensive signing is up to Inter's leadership, with Cuti Romero understood to be open to a move to Milan.
The financial terms for Romero’s transfer are reportedly agreed between both clubs, but Inter still needs to decide if they want to move forward and finish talks with the player.
The Cult of Calcio reports that Inter president Beppe Marotta is expected to meet with Romero’s agent to discuss the last contract details. According to the report, personal terms are the final element to confirm, with Romero reportedly asking for the same salary he earns at Tottenham.
Argentine journalist Leo Paradizo earlier reported that Romero would leave Tottenham and that the two clubs had reached a verbal agreement.
“The second thing I’m in a position to confirm, and this is information checked firsthand today, is that there is a verbal agreement between Tottenham and Inter Milan,” Paradizo said.
“The agreement between Inter and Tottenham is for €40 million.”

The Spurs Head Coach also confirmed that Romero and Italian international Guillermo Vicario both asked to leave the club this summer. An exit for the Argentine has been expected all summer, and with De Zerbi’s latest confirmation, the transfer will likely be confirmed this week.
Romero’s preference is also a key factor. Previous reports said the Argentina international would rather move to Spain, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid both linked to him this summer.
However, neither Spanish club has made a formal offer, so Inter is currently in the best position to sign him.
Tottenham have already made important additions to their defence under Roberto De Zerbi, making them less dependent on Romero for the new Premier League season. Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi both joined earlier in the window. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously said it was “over” between Romero and Tottenham, with the defender planning to go this summer.
The next big decision is up to the Italian champions. If Inter agrees to the deal and sorts out Romero’s contract, the Tottenham captain’s five years in north London could soon be over.
