Lucas Bergvall and Sandro Tonali enjoyed Nations League victories, while Jamie Donley drew with Northern Ireland. Read Tottenham’s international round-up.

On Monday night, Lucas Bergvall and Sandro Tonali finished their international duties with wins, while Jamie Donley's Northern Ireland were left frustrated after a goalless draw.

Academy players Malachi Hardy, Luca Williams-Barnett and Oliver Salter also returned to N17 after their international duty.

Bergvall started and played the full 90 as Sweden beat Romania 1–0 in Bucharest, with Viktor Gyökeres scoring the winner in the 13th minute and putting Sweden at the top of their Nations League group.

Tonali came off the bench in the 70th minute as Italy beat Turkey 3–1 in Bologna. Gianluca Scamacca scored the first goal before Aral Simsir equalised. Riccardo Calafiori restored Italy’s advantage, and Pio Esposito added a late third.

Meanwhile, Jamie Donley, on loan at Luton Town this season, started the match and played 74 minutes in the Belfa game, which ended 0-0 between Northern Ireland and Georgia.

Although they had chances to win, goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili saved Isaac Price's late penalty after earlier saving Josh Magennis's attempt. Northern Ireland are still top of their group after four matches.

Academy standouts Malachi Hardy started the match against Belgium, with Luca Williams-Barnett joining the game after 58 minutes in a friendly match in Spain, which England lost due to a late goal. Welsh Youth International Oliver Salter came on after 70 minutes, and Wales Under-18s suffered a 2–0 defeat against Finland.

All players will now head back to Tottenham to prepare for the return of the Premier League, League One or Academy Football. Calls for Luca Williams-Barnett to be first-team involved will have only gotten louder following two goals during this international break.

Jamie Donley will want to hit the ground running as he returns to Luton Town, following valuable minutes for Northern Ireland.

Club record signing Sandro Tonali expressed during the extended international break that the pain he had been dealing with at the start of the season had now gone, and the Italian will hope to show Tottenham and its fans why De Zerbi was so keen to bring him to North London this summer.

Tottenham return to Premier League action against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 10, with kick-off at 5.30pm, live on Sky Sports. Roberto De Zerbi’s side face a big test after the international break, with the Italian head coach seeking his first league win of the season.
