A frustrating evening in Manchester ends with a goal apiece, Spurs down to ten men and Dominic Solanke finally finding his scoring touch late on.

Tottenham Hotspur came into the game winless after five games and, for large parts, felt they might finally secure their first Premier League win.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side dominated large parts of the first half and could have taken the lead when Dominic Solanke latched onto a missed place pass from the Manchester United keeper, but the England international couldn’t convert from close range. Further dominance on the ball and from wide areas wasn’t enough, as Conor Gallagher couldn't sort his feet out to produce a meaningful shot.

Mohamed Kudus and, in particular, Savio were bright throughout; the Brazilians' dribbling was in full effect, but he lacked the end product that followed him during his time at Manchester City.

Both sides went into the half goalless; Sandro Tonali and Lucas Bergvall controlled the midfield battle until United brought on summer signing Carlos Baleba, who added energy into the middle of the park, and it was the home side that struck first through Bryan Mbeumo, slotting home a lovely left-foot shot inside the penalty area. It went from bad to worse for Spurs as, a few minutes later, Rodrigo Bentancur, a second-half substitute, was given a straight red card for an apparent headbutt on Luke Shaw, after a wild few minutes that looked like another loss was coming for Spurs.

However, De Zerbi went back to a back three, with Mateus Fernandes and James Maddison in midfield, and Spurs struck back late with a lovely header from Dominic Solanke, who glazed home a Sanro Tonali cross, after fighting off Argentina International Lisandro Martinez.

Tottenham and Roberto De Zeri will feel they should have left Manchester with all three points, but a lack of clinical finishing early in the game cost them the first win of the Premier League season. Credit goes to the team for the fightback and for dealing with adversity to at least leave with a somewhat deserved point.

Spurs will welcome Premier League new boys Coventry City to the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium on Monday evening.
