Last Word On Spurs

Martin Ho has been named the Women’s Super League Manager of the Month for September after Tottenham collected 10 points from four matches in an impressive opening month.

Spurs scored 15 goals and conceded only twice during that unbeaten run, combining attacking style with two clean sheets. The award is Ho’s second, following his February success, and recognises a month in which Tottenham produced convincing results against several different opponents.

September began with a 3-1 home victory over West Ham before an away draw against Liverpool. Spurs then defeated Crystal Palace 7-0, with every goal arriving after half-time, and finished the month by beating Aston Villa 4-0.

“This award is really a reflection of the work of the players and staff throughout September,” Ho told the club’s official website.

The Palace result is the standout on the scoreline, but the month’s significance extends beyond one emphatic afternoon. Tottenham followed an away draw with consecutive victories in which they scored 11 times without conceding. Ho was happy not only with his team's reaction butwith how emphatic they were about it.

Ho is in his second season at Tottenham after joining from Norwegian club SK Brann. Last season felt like the building blocks were being placed around how he set his side up; following a summer of recruitment, the team has already started better than Ho might have even expected.

The September nominees also included Chelsea’s Sonia Bompastor, Manchester City’s Andree Jeglertz and London City Lionesses’ Eder Maestre, leaving the Spurs Head Coach in great company.

However, after winning the award, Tottenham’s first league match in October delivered a sharp reminder that football can change quickly, as Spurs lost 6-1 to London City Lionesses on 4 October, ending their unbeaten start in damaging style.

The timing means the award arrives alongside a setback, but October’s defeat does not change what Tottenham achieved during the month, which is being recognised and celebrated. September showed the team’s ability to dominate matches, while London City exposed weaknesses opponents can punish, something Ho will want to change in training.

Tottenham Women return at Chelsea on 18 October before hosting Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 24 October as part of this season games being held at the stadium.

They then visit Bristol City in the Subway Players Cup on 28 October, travel to Birmingham City on 1 November and welcome Brighton on 8 November, completing their next five scheduled fixtures.
