Mohammed Kudus will remain with Tottenham during the international break after withdrawing from Ghana duty to focus on his fitness and recovery.
Mohammed Kudus has chosen to stay with Tottenham Hotspur during the international break instead of joining the Ghana squad, as he continues to work on regaining full fitness.
The 26-year-old was included in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man Black Stars squad for the upcoming international matches, marking his return after seven months away from the national team.
But Kudus will stay in north London to continue his rehabilitation with Tottenham instead of traveling for Ghana’s upcoming games. This is a boost for Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who can now work with Kudus during the break as the forward tries to get back to his best shape.
Kudus recently came back after a long injury lay-off that also kept him out of the 2026 World Cup with Ghana. His injury problems kept him out for around seven months, and Tottenham have understandably taken a careful approach with his return to competitive action.
Kudus has played in Spurs’ last four games and made his first start since January in the Carabao Cup loss to Liverpool at Anfield. He came off the bench against Aston Villa and made an impact, even though Tottenham lost 3-2 in the Premier League.
Kudus set up Conor Gallagher for Spurs’ first Premier League goal of the season, showing that he is gradually getting back to his best. Withdrawing from the squad gives him an uninterrupted period to build fitness and strength before domestic football resumes.
Ghana had hoped to bring Kudus back into the national team after his long absence. The Tottenham forward was named in Queiroz’s squad for key 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, as well as a friendly against Morocco. Ghana will play Côte d’Ivoire away on September 24, host The Gambia in Accra on September 29, and then travel to Tangier to face Morocco on October 4.
Derby County’s Mohammed Fuseini has been called up late to replace Kudus in the Black Stars squad.
Tottenham have had a tough start to the Premier League season, making it even more important to get their main attacking players fully fit. Kudus also faces strong competition for attacking spots after Tottenham’s recent signings, with Sávio and Omar Marmoush both able to play on the right and centrally in the number 10 position.
Kudus staying at Hotspur Way during the international break is a good chance to manage his recovery and possibly have him closer to full fitness when the Premier League returns.
