Sandro Tonali has officially been confirmed as a new Tottenham Hotspur player, with an announcement video coming from James Maddison.
The 26-year-old Italian international midfielder joins from Newcastle United for a reported fee of £92.5m, plus £7.5m in add-ons, which has smashed the club's transfer record of £85m paid for Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United earlier this week.

I spoke to the Head Coach for close to two hours about the Club, the fans, the stadium and our football. It was like magic because I knew immediately that I had to sign for Tottenham. I've played against Tottenham a few times and always found a great atmosphere made by great fans. I can't wait to start the season."Sandro said
Sandro Tonali’s rise at Brescia saw his composure and passing draw comparisons with Andrea Pirlo. AC Milan moved for him in 2020, initially on loan, before making the deal permanent. Tonali quickly grew from a talented prospect into a key midfielder at San Siro, combining defensive bite with intelligence in possession. His breakthrough came as he helped Milan win Serie A in 2021-22, confirming his elite-level potential.

I have followed him for a long time, as he came through the youth system at my hometown club, Brescia, and I'm so happy to be working with him now. Given his qualities, there was a lot of interest in Sandro this summer. However, he was very clear in his desire to join Tottenham, and I know our fans will love what he brings to the team.”
The Italian Head Coach has secured his number one defensive target in Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton and now his number one midfield target, with reports suggesting Tonali will be given the “keys” to a new-look Spurs midfield built on two all-action midfielders.

Sandro Tonali’s time at Newcastle has been eventful from the moment he arrived from AC Milan in 2023. He made an immediate impact with a debut goal against Aston Villa, but his first season was disrupted by a 10-month betting ban. Tonali returned in August 2024, working at the base of Newcastle's midfield, allowing more freedom for Brazilian Bruno Guimarães to advance further up the field and creating a powerful midfield spine that helped secure the 2025 Carabao Cup.
Now that midfield reinforcement has been secured, alongside the defensive line, attention will turn to the forward line for De Zerbi and those in N17.
