Seeking regular first-team football, the Brazilian winger is prioritizing a £60 million switch to North London as Roberto De Zerbi targets a creative spark for Spurs' frontline.
Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of signing Savinho have improved after the Brazilian winger told Manchester City he wants to leave this summer and join the North London club.
At 22, Savinho wants more regular first-team football and is interested in joining Tottenham. Roberto De Zerbi is looking to add more quality and creativity to his left side. According to Sky Sports, Savinho is eager to leave City and join Spurs.
Fabrizio Romano said the player only told Manchester City he wants to leave, without confirming if he made a formal written request.
Romano reported that Savinho wants more playing time at this point in his career, saying: “Savio wants to play more and develop in his career.” Now, Manchester City must decide whether to let him leave.
Tottenham have made Savinho their top attacking target, with their interest going back to last summer. Spurs are now trying to use his wish for a new challenge to their advantage, and talks about a deal worth around £60 million have been reported.
Roberto De Zerbi has already secured his number one targets in the defence and midfield; it's now looking likely he will secure his number one attacking target in the Brazilian.
Romano says Tottenham are still strong contenders and see the Brazilian as a top target. However, City might wait to sign another wide player before approving the transfer.
Last season, Savinho had fewer chances to play. He appeared in 36 games across all competitions but started only 14, scoring 4 goals and making 3 assists. With more competition for wide positions at City, he faces another fight for regular playing time.
Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku, Antoine Semenyo, and Phil Foden can all play on the wings, and Jack Grealish is back from his loan at Everton. This depth seems to have influenced Savinho’s decision to look for a move.
Manchester City are expected to ask for a high fee, with about £60 million being discussed. Savinho is still under a long-term contract, so the club does not have to accept a lower offer even though he wants to leave.
Signing Savinho would be another big statement during De Zerbi’s rebuild following the summer arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. The Italian Head Coach said earlier this week that the club wasn’t done in its recruitment, and now with Savinho expressing his interest in joining the club, Tottenham could be on for another ‘Here We Go’
