Shakhtar Donetsk intend to reopen discussions with Tottenham over compensation for Manor Solomon following the winger’s summer transfer to West Ham.
Shakhtar Donetsk intend to reopen discussions with Tottenham over compensation for Manor Solomon following the winger’s summer transfer to West Ham.
Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergei Palkin says the Ukrainian club will approach Spurs after selling Solomon for a reported initial £ 5 million. He claims the clubs previously reached a verbal understanding that Shakhtar would receive part of any subsequent sale.
Palkin prefers to resolve the matter through negotiations rather than escalate the dispute. He told reporters that Shakhtar would formally present their position to Tottenham. If discussions fail, he said the club could seek help from intermediaries, naming the European Club Association or the Court of Arbitration for Sport as possible routes.
The central issue is Palkin’s account of the earlier understanding. Solomon moved to Tottenham in July 2023 after using FIFA’s temporary contractual provisions introduced following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The provisions allowed foreign players at Ukrainian and Russian clubs to suspend their contracts. Solomon’s Shakhtar agreement was due to expire in December 2023, allowing him to suspend it beyond that date and join Tottenham without a transfer fee.
Shakhtar invested € 6.5 million to sign him from Maccabi Petah Tikva in 2019. At the time, Palkin explained that the club wanted to recoup its investment and hoped negotiations with Tottenham would produce an amicable solution.
His subsequent sale is the point at which Shakhtar now wants that issue addressed. Tottenham Hotspur confirmed Solomon’s transfer to West Ham on August 10. The club’s announcement confirmed Solomon’s six competitive appearances for Spurs: five in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup. A knee injury interrupted his first season, after which he spent time away on loan.
He helped Leeds win promotion in 2024/25 before further spells at Villarreal and Fiorentina the following season.
The West Ham move is described as a deal worth £5 million upfront, with a further £2 million in potential add-ons and a reported 10 per cent sell-on clause.
Manor Solomon began his senior career at Maccabi Petah Tikva before joining Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2019. The Israel international later spent a season on loan at Fulham before signing for Tottenham in July 2023. A knee injury restricted his Spurs career to six competitive appearances. He later helped Leeds United secure Premier League promotion on loan, before further loans at Villarreal and Fiorentina. Solomon completed a permanent move to West Ham United in August 2026 from Tottenham.
