Tottenham have travelled to Marbella for a warm-weather training and team-bonding trip as Roberto De Zerbi looks to turn the newly assembled squad into a more cohesive side

Tottenham have travelled to Marbella for a warm-weather training and team-bonding trip as Roberto De Zerbi looks to turn the newly assembled squad into a more cohesive side.

The visit to southern Spain follows Saturday’s 1–1 draw at Manchester United and takes advantage of the nine-day gap before Spurs host Coventry City on Monday, October 19.

Reports published before the Old Trafford match outlined the planned camp, making clear that the trip was arranged ahead of Tottenham’s late equaliser rather than as a response to the result. De Zerbi intends to use the time away to strengthen relationships within his new-look squad.

Speaking about the visit, the Italian explained that Tottenham’s individual quality had not yet translated into the collective identity he wants.

“We are going because we have to build the team,” he said. He explained that players need to learn to endure difficult moments together and take shared responsibility in attack and defence.

Tottenham arrived in Manchester seeking their first Premier League victory of the season. They left still waiting for that win, but with a performance that gave De Zerbi grounds for encouragement.

Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead before Rodrigo Bentancur’s dismissal left Spurs facing the closing stages with ten players. Dominic Solanke’s stoppage-time header nevertheless secured a point.

Tottenham sit 18th and remain winless after six league matches, despite spending more than £300 million in the summer transfer window.

The draw provides a useful starting point for the camp. Rather than treating togetherness as only an ambition, the coaching staff can point to a match in which the players responded collectively to adversity, something they have struggled to do over the past two seasons.

Tottenham’s league position makes the forthcoming Coventry fixture important, and a late equaliser cannot disguise the need to start winning games before a repeat of last season creeps up on them again.

The Marbella trip is thus another element of De Zerbi's effort to create a solid team identity and a sense of unity. Although the match at Old Trafford produced a promising reaction when under pressure, the game against Coventry will be about putting that unity, which has been developed as a result of the draw and the trip, to good use in securing their first league victory of the season.

2026 has been tough for Spurs, and they hope their journey to southern Spain will help get the season going.

Tottenham host Coventry on October 19 before visiting Chelsea on October 24. Crystal Palace visit on October 31, followed by a trip to Leeds on November 7 and a home meeting with Ipswich on November 21. Three home fixtures offer De Zerbi’s side opportunities to build momentum and confidence.
