Roberto De Zerbi has provided an update on several key players ahead of this Saturday's game away at Chelsea.
Tottenham have received injury boosts ahead of Saturday’s trip to Chelsea, with Pedro Porro back after a month out with a hamstring problem. However, Roberto De Zerbi will remain without Destiny Udogie as he assesses his options for the Stamford Bridge derby.
Chelsea host Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with both sides seeking to build on their victories, but their Premier League starts have been markedly different. Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea sit fourth with 13 points from seven matches, while Roberto De Zerbi’s Spurs are 16th with six points.
Lucas Bergvall and Savio are also sidelined, while Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons continue their recoveries. After Monday’s victory over Coventry, attention now turns to which players can feature again, with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski still being carefully managed following lengthy absences. Here is the latest on Tottenham’s injury situation ahead of the game.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, the Italian head coach confirmed, “Pedro is back. Robertson is available. Marmoush is good. Solanke is good. Lucas Bergvall, Savio out, nothing more. Bentancur suspended.”
Pedro Porro is available for Tottenham’s trip to Chelsea after recovering from the hamstring injury sustained against Aston Villa on September 19. The defender’s absence interrupted a memorable year, having helped Spain win the World Cup during the summer.
Porro scored twice in the tournament, including against France in the semi-final, and helped Ferran Torres score the winning goal against Argentina in the final. His performances earned him selection in FIFA’s fan-voted Dream XI. After a month sidelined, his return gives Roberto De Zerbi an established right-back whose attacking delivery and international experience could prove valuable as Tottenham seek another victory.
Left-back Udogie remains out, with De Zerbi confirming "Destiny is not available". The defender has been out since the Manchester United game. Tottenham’s medical staff are assessing the best approach to his recovery, leaving De Zerbi to consider alternative defensive options.
There were some concerns about Andy Robertson after he came off in Tottenham’s 3-1 win Monday night against Coventry, but the Scotland International will be available to play as will goalscorer Omar Marmoush.
However, James Maddison may not make the trip to Stamford Bridge, and the Italian head coach is still trying to manage his players while not taking risks with any knocks or injuries.
"I don’t know because in the first three days, Maddison didn’t work with us. I don’t know if he’s ready for tomorrow. We can play with Mathys Tel, we can play with Marmoush inside, we can play with Gallagher. We have more solutions, considering now Pedro Porro can play. Like I said many times, I don’t want to take risks. If you analyse this period of European football, you can see many, many injuries, not just for Tottenham, for everyone, so if I can, I don’t want to take risks to lose many players for many games."
Lucas Bergvall remains sidelined with a knee injury sustained during Tottenham’s draw at Manchester United. The midfielder was hurt in a challenge that created an early chance for Dominic Solanke. Having missed the Coventry victory, he is also unavailable against Chelsea on Saturday, reducing Roberto De Zerbi’s central midfield options.
Wilson Odobert has been seen training again, but Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed he isn't back with the first team yet, keeping the French youth international well into recovery from his ACL injury:: "I don’t know because he has not started working with us yet."
Dejan Kulusevski made his long-awaited comeback on Monday night, and the Swedish international continues to train with the first team, though he trained individually after the 3-1 victory. This is normal after such a big injury,y, but Deki was pictured anfilmeded in Tottenham training material on Thursday, further exciting the fanbase.
Tottenham finally secured their first league win on Monday, beating Coventry 3–1 after six matches without a win. The result lifted Spurs out of the relegation zone and offered encouragement after a difficult start.
However, Chelsea have won the last six meetings between the clubs. For Tottenham, taking points at Stamford Bridge would provide further evidence that Monday’s breakthrough can become the foundation for sustained improvement.
