Wilson Odobert could return in November, while Xavi Simons continues ACL rehabilitation.
Tottenham’s Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons remain unavailable as they recover from serious knee injuries, though recent reports offer encouragement about their rehabilitation. As of October 5, neither player has an officially confirmed return date.
Odobert’s potential comeback appears closer. The latest from the Evening Standard suggests the French winger is in the latter stages of recovery and could return in late November.
The winger ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against Newcastle in February. Tottenham confirmed the diagnosis, stating that he would undergo surgery before beginning rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff.
Discussion about an earlier return has also circulated on social media. An October 1 report on X from @LeN17ah suggesting that team training might follow within weeks and that a November comeback was possible.
Odobert would need several weeks of training to regain fitness and sharpness and to ensure his knee can handle the high demands a Premier League player puts it through. Spurs’ medical team have also been very cautious about returning players, and Wilson will likely be part of that caution.
Simons remains on a longer recovery pathway. The Dutch midfielder ruptured the ACL in his right knee against Wolves on April 25, with Tottenham subsequently confirming that surgery took place on May 5.
His latest encouraging development involves rehabilitation in the United States. Xavi Simons has been sharing his progress across social media and recently returned to the US to work on the pitch at LAFC’s training facility. Tottenham had separately confirmed his American trip as part of his recovery programme.
The footballing question for Tottenham is how to prepare for their eventual reintegration. Returning players need clearly defined roles, and the coaching staff must decide how best to introduce them into a team whose demands may have changed during their absence.
There is also a difference between being available for selection and being ready to carry a substantial workload. Supporters should expect those decisions to reflect each player’s condition rather than a shared deadline.
For Roberto De Zerbi, any eventual return would broaden his attacking choices. Yet planning should continue around the players currently available, allowing Odobert and Simons to progress without their recoveries becoming solutions demanded by the next result.
The next meaningful updates will concern participation in team sessions, clearance for competitive action and confirmation from the club. Until then, November remains a possibility for Odobert, while 2027 remains the reported expectation for Simons.
