Tottenham are reportedly monitoring Bayer Leverkusen and Algeria midfielder Ibrahim Maza, with the highly-rated 20-year-old emerging as a potential Spurs transfer target.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping a close eye on Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Ibrahim Maza as the north London club continues to monitor some of Europe’s most exciting young talent.
The 20-year-old Algerian international has emerged as a player attracting Premier League attention after developing in Germany, with Tottenham and rivals Arsenal linked with the midfielder.
Maza’s reputation has continued to grow after another impressive international performance for Algeria, providing Spurs supporters with an intriguing name to follow ahead of future transfer windows.
According to reports carried by Yahoo Sports, Tottenham are among the clubs monitoring Maza’s development at Bayer Leverkusen.
At this stage, there is no suggestion that Spurs have submitted an offer or entered formal negotiations for the midfielder, so it remains a situation to watch rather than an advanced transfer.
Born in Berlin, Maza developed through Hertha Berlin’s academy before establishing himself at the senior level. His performances in Germany earned him a move to Bayer Leverkusen, where he has continued his development while competing at a considerably higher level.
Although capable of playing in several attacking positions, Maza is particularly comfortable operating centrally behind the forwards. His technical ability lets him receive possession in congested areas and link midfield to attack.
That versatility could make him an interesting option for Roberto De Zerbi. Tottenham have assembled several talented young players capable of developing over the coming seasons, and adding another technically gifted midfielder would continue that strategy.
Maza is also becoming increasingly important internationally. After representing Germany at youth level, he chose to represent Algeria at senior level and has since established himself in their national-team setup.
His latest performance has only increased the attention surrounding him. Maza scored and provided an assist as Algeria recorded a 3-1 victory against Zambia, with the Bundesliga’s official website highlighting another eye-catching display from the Leverkusen youngster.
The Italian Head Coach demands players comfortable receiving possession under pressure, able to progress the ball, and technically secure enough to operate in his possession-heavy system.
Maza possesses many of those characteristics. At just 20, there would also be considerable room for development rather than Tottenham necessarily signing the finished product.
Competition for his signature could be huge if his performances continue attracting attention. Arsenal have also been mentioned among his admirers, while his progress at one of Germany’s biggest clubs gives Leverkusen little reason to rush any decision about his future.
His performances for Leverkusen and Algeria are attracting wider attention, and if Tottenham’s reported interest develops further, Ibrahim Maza could become a name increasingly associated with north London.
