Tottenham are once again being linked with Morgan Gibbs-White as Spurs consider reviving their interest in the Nottingham Forest star ahead of January.
Tottenham Hotspur are once again linked with a move for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, with reports saying Spurs are considering reviving their long-running interest in the England international this January.
Gibbs-White was at the centre of one of Tottenham's biggest transfer stories in the summer of 2025, when the north London club attempted to sign the attacking midfielder by triggering a reported £60million release clause.
The deal seemed to be moving forward until Nottingham Forest challenged Tottenham’s approach and threatened legal action over how Spurs found out about the clause.
The transfer eventually fell through, and Gibbs-White chose to stay at Forest by signing a new contract at the City Ground.
Now, more than a year later, Tottenham’s interest seems to have returned. Spurs still rate Gibbs-White highly, and he could become a target when the January transfer window opens. The biggest difference compared with Tottenham’s previous pursuit is likely to be the price.
A reported valuation of about £125 million has now surfaced, more than double the £60 million release clause Tottenham tried to activate in 2025.
The 26-year-old had an excellent 2025/26 Premier League season, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists in 37 games.
He has started the new season strongly too, with one goal and two assists in Forest’s first five league matches.
His performances have earned him more England call-ups and boosted his reputation as one of the Premier League’s top attacking midfielders.
Spurs have had to deal with injuries to several creative players, like Xavi Simons, James Maddison, and Dejan Kulusevski. This has left De Zerbi without regular access to his best attacking midfielders.
Gibbs-White cGibbs-White could be an immediate solution. Playing as a number 10 or in a more advanced midfield position next to Sandro Tonali or Rodrigo Bentancur, he combines creativity with the ability to carry the ball, create opportunities and contribute goals.
However, making a January transfer happen would be very difficult. Forest improved their negotiating position when Gibbs-White signed a new contract after Tottenham’s failed 2025 bid, and they are unlikely to want to let the England international leave.
They have also shown little sign of wanting to sell another key player. Elliot Anderson’s move to Manchester City has eased the immediate financial pressure that another big sale would normally bring.
However, it’s clear that Tottenham still admire Morgan Gibbs-White, even after their previous attempt to sign him fell through. With January coming up and De Zerbi’s squad needing more creativity following a concerning start to the season, Morgan Gibbs-White is once again a name to watch in Tottenham’s transfer plans.
