Last Word On Spurs
Nov 6, 2026 9:45 AM

Mikey Moore has had a tough start to life at FC Köln following his loan move from Tottenham Hotspur, but Harry Kane should be a good example for him.

Mikey Moore is one of the top players to emerge from Tottenham Hotspur's academy in recent years.

The 19-year-old received major offers from Manchester City and Manchester United just before he signed his first professional contract with the club back in 2024.

Last season, the teenager had a very successful spell on loan at Rangers, but it did not come without its difficulties.

Moore started very slowly at Ibrox, but during the second half of the campaign, he burst into life and became a real fans' favourite.

Now he is facing a similar predicament at Köln following a tough start, and he must now look to take a leaf out of Harry Kane's book to make it at Tottenham.

Why Mikey Moore is struggling on loan at Köln

Moore has been strongly criticised by the local media in Germany following a poor start to life at FC Köln.

The German club felt he would be the difference maker for them this term; however, he has yet to live up to that potential.

But in truth, this is a ridiculous mindset from the German media to scapegoat such a talented young player.

Koln have been pretty poor as a collective this season, and expecting a young player to be the main difference maker is unfair.

Moore's first few appearances were actually very impressive, but as Koln's results have dipped, so have the youngster's performances.

When Moore was at his best for Rangers, he was featured either in a central role or out on the left wing.

However, at Köln, he has been moved all across the front line and used out of position, which will also contribute towards his struggles.

Spurs should now be keeping a close eye on Moore's situation ahead of the January transfer window and consider reassessing what to do next.

Mikey Moore can repeat Harry Kane trick at Tottenham

When listening to Moore talk, he comes across incredibly well and is someone with a superb mindset.

It is the reason why he was able to succeed at such a big club like Rangers, despite having a tough start.

Another player who faced a similar situation was Harry Kane, who had tough loan spells at Leyton Orient, Norwich City, Millwall and Leicester City.

Despite struggling to make the grade on loan, Kane kept working hard, and of course, the rest is now history.

As mentioned, Moore is a player who has the right attitude to make it at the top level, and he should be looking at Kane's struggles for inspiration.
