Tottenham Hotspur's majority owners, the Lewis family, released a statement in May 2026 acknowledging that "actions will speak louder than words" following a season where the club narrowly avoided relegation. After two tough Premier League seasons, Tottenham’s owners promised a “complete reset,” and judging by the scale of their summer moves, they kept that promise.
Spurs made 54 moves this window: 13 new signings, 10 permanent sales, three players returning from loan, 17 outgoing loans, and 11 releases. They spent about £394 million, which could rise to £469 million with add-ons and future clauses.
Roberto De Zerbi’s impact was clear: after saving the North London side from relegation, he has identified not only players to bring to the club but also those to allow to leave. De Zerbi confirmed during the tour of Australia and New Zealand that he has agreed with the club on this rebuild before signing to become the new head coach, and with credit to the ownership, they seem to have fully backed the Italian.
Tottenham brought Jan Paul van Hecke and Mykhailo Mudryk for him, and several other players reportedly joined after talking with the Italian manager.
Sandro Tonali was the biggest signing, joining for a club-record £92.5 million plus up to £7.5 million in add-ons. Mateus Fernandes came from relegated West Ham for £85 million, adding another skilled and energetic midfielder for De Zerbi’s possession-focused style.
Sávio joined from Manchester City for £75 million, possibly rising to £85 million. Spurs then went back to City for Omar Marmoush, who arrived on loan with an obligation to buy for £50 million plus £10 million in add-ons.
Mudryk represents the window’s biggest gamble. The Ukrainian has joined Chelsea on loan with a reported £ 75 million purchase option but no obligation. His speed and previous relationship with De Zerbi offer enormous upside without initially committing Tottenham to another permanent fee.
The defensive change was comprehensive. Van Hecke came from Brighton for £52 million, and Tosin Adarabioyo joined from Chelsea for an initial £7 million plus add-ons. Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson arrived on free transfers, bringing experience, balance, and leadership. Martin Dubravka arrived for free following his Burnley departure, providing experienced cover after Guglielmo Vicario joined Juventus.
Tottenham’s overhaul meant letting go of some key players. Captain Cristian Romero went to Atlético Madrid for £34.2 million, and Djed Spence joined Inter Milan for £25.7 million. Loans could bring in more money for Spurs. Kevin Danso’s move to Sunderland includes a £2.5 million loan fee and a possible £22.5 million obligation to buy. Pape Matar Sarr joined Juventus for about €2.8 million, with a €27 million option that could become mandatory. Radu Drăgușin’s loan to Fiorentina has a conditional permanent clause, and Juventus has a non-mandatory option to buy Vicario.
The academy was also a big focus. Mikey Moore’s loan to Köln gives him Bundesliga experience while Spurs keep hold of a top prospect. Mason Melia, Jamie Donley, George Abbott, and several Under-21 players were also loaned out to get first-team minutes.
This transfer window was bold, costly, and ruthless, with the club now having a squad that fits De Zerbi’s style much better. But losing Romero, Spence, Sarr, Danso, and Vicario at once means they’ve lost a lot of experience and stability, as well as several fan favourites.
There’s no doubt the squad is more talented on paper now; however, the big question is whether all these new players can settle in quickly and whether De Zerbi can turn this busy transfer window into a winning team.
