It looks like the £10 million Celtic transfer saga has taken another U-turn as a move seems to be back on.
There have been plenty of twists and turns this summer for Celtic already. It was widely expected that the club would do everything possible to keep both Kelechi Iheanacho and Marcelo Saracchi. Neither has stayed.
The squad has been further weakened by the departure of Daizen Maeda. He was the club's best player during the title run-in.
On top of that, it looks like more key players could be heading for the exit door. Arne Engels has already agreed personal terms with West Ham United. Alistair Johnston is drawing interest from Everton.
In return, Celtic have only made two signings so far. Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh look like quality additions. But quantity is required as well.
The fans will be hoping to see a few more fresh faces head through the entrance over the coming weeks. And it appears one transfer saga might not over just yet.
Celtic still in race to sign £10 million winger
When Martin O'Neill confirmed Celtic's interest in Fares Ghedjemis, many took it as a sign that the club's interest in Haissem Hassan was headed nowhere. That might not be the case after all.
While speaking with The Scottish Sun, journalist David Friel said:
“Real Oviedo have been very busy signing a lot of players. The sporting director David Fernandez, not the one that played for Celtic and Livingston, has been pretty open about the dealings and all that sort of stuff.
“I think he also wants the going rate he believes for Hassan, and Celtic are willing to go high for him.”
Obviously, that does not mean that the two clubs will be able to find an agreement over a transfer fee. But at the very least, there is still a possibility that Hassan could be signed this summer.
Will Celtic trigger Hassan's release clause?
There is believed to be a release clause around £10 million in Hassan's contract with Real Oviedo. And there have been suggestions that the Spanish club want that to be met in order to sanction a move.
To be very honest, that might not be a realistic demand in many ways. At the end of the day, Hassan is a winger who managed just three assists last season and no goals as his team finished at the bottom of La Liga and were relegated.
Yes, if Premier League clubs do come calling, then it will be a completely different story and that transfer demand might seem like peanuts.
But as far as Celtic are concerned, a £10 million transfer fee would represent a significant risk based on just one good World Cup campaign.
Let us not forget that Ghedjemis is believed to be available for a lower transfer fee. And when you look at the underlying numbers, he might very well have been the best winger in Serie B last season.
So, if Real Oviedo are unwilling to budge from their demands, it might be worth pushing forward with a move for Ghedjemis, unless it is both wingers that Celtic want to sign this summer.
