Celtic have been linked to the Liverpool left-back even though Landon Emenalo has not even made his debut yet.

It was always very clear that Celtic needed to sign a left-back this summer. Most fans would have preferred to see the club bring back Marcelo Saracchi.

The Uruguayan international had proven himself in Celtic colours last season, on loan from Boca Juniors. But for some reason, the Hoops decided not to make a move, even though he was available and eventually moved for a bargain transfer fee.

Instead, the club took a risk and signed Landon Emenalo on loan from Chelsea. But we are to yet to see him in action.

That is because Emenalo picked up an injury in Chelsea training before Celtic had even signed him. And that is believed to have been the reason why the Hoops delayed his signing, allowing him some time to recover while still at Stamford Bridge.

Yet, we have not seen any of Emenalo so far. It is believed that he might still be out for a few weeks. On the other hand, Celtic are already being linked with a move for a Liverpool left-back.

Celtic linked with move for Liverpool left-back

According to Football Insider, Celtic are looking to sign a new left-back in the January transfer window amid concerns over Emenalo's fitness.

It is being claimed that Celtic are set to explore another left-back signing due to uncertainty around Emenalo's fitness and first-team readiness. And the Hoops have been linked with a January move for Liverpool's Luke Chambers.

Chambers is another young left-back. But he is 22 years old and has plenty of experience in senior football.

Unfortunately for Chambers, most of it is away from Liverpool. He has only appeared four times for the Reds.

Liverpool ready to let Chambers leave in January

It has been claimed that Liverpool are ready to let Chambers leave on loan in the January transfer window. Of course, that is good news for Celtic if they do end up seriously pursuing a move for the left-back.

Also, one cannot overlook the fact that he already has experience in Scottish football. He has spent time on loan at Kilmarnock. That should help him if a move to Celtic does transpire.

Obviously, Celtic do not really need a starter while Kieran Tierney is still at the club. But they do need a starting-level player.

That is because Tierney's injury history is extensive. If he does end up spending a significant spell out injured at some point in the future, the Hoops could be in trouble.
