The legendary manager has been eyed as a potential successor to Martin O'Neill next summer.
There is the option for another year in Martin O'Neill's Celtic contract. But with all the noise surrounding the manager and his future, it is hard to imagine that he will remain at Parkhead beyond this season, even if he somehow sees it out.
So, it is quite likely that the Hoops might look for a new manager soon. And it looks like they have a former Celtic player in their sights.
Of course, Celtic do have a history of bringing in those with a prior connection to the club as manager. Just look at the majority of their recent appointments.
It was true for Neil Lennon, Brendan Rodgers and Martin O'Neill. As for those who did not have that connection, Ange Postecoglou was a massive success while Wilfried Nancy failed to meet even minimum expectations.
So, the club perhaps should look towards a manager who understands what it means to take on the Celtic job. And fortunately, someone of that ilk might be available as a free agent next summer.
Celtic keep eye on David Moyes
As reported by Alan Nixon on Patreon (via BBC), Celtic will be keeping an eye on David Moyes as a possible successor to O'Neill next season. His Everton contract is expiring in the summer.
Of course, Moyes is doing a phenomenal job at the moment. He has Everton sitting at fifth in the Premier League.
That is incredible for a club that had spent so many years merely avoiding relegation and taking things right down to the wire on more than one occasion in that respect.
So, would Everton not be completely desperate to keep hold of Moyes? Well, that is impossible to guess, especially as there are whispers that the club's owners might be looking to sell up.
Is David Moyes the right man for the Celtic job?
Many might not know that Moyes actually spent a couple of years playing for Celtic early on in his career.
Of course, while he did have a playing career that lasted 18 years, it is as a manager that he secured his legacy in the game.
Having started out at Preston North End, Moyes would then spend more than a decade in the Everton job next. In fact, he was so impressive that Manchester United picked him as the successor to Sir Alex Ferguson.
Obviously, it did not work out at Old Trafford and for a little while, it looked like Moyes' managerial career was fading away.
He would find his feet again at West Ham United though and has now continued to build on that at Everton.
If he does end up leaving Everton in the summer, would a return to Celtic appeal to Moyes? Or would he want to continue managing in the Premier League?
