It looks like the former Rangers player helped Celtic complete the summer signing.
Celtic completed quite a few signings in the recent summer transfer window, probably more than most would have expected. Now, it remains to be seen whether the quality matches the quantity or not.
Celtic did make some high-profile additions. One of them was the record signing of Kasper Hogh from Bodo/Glimt.
So far, it has been a tough start to life in Glasgow for Hogh. He has scored a hat-trick already, but has not found the back of the net in any of his four other outings.
Hogh simply does not appear to have the technical ability that Celtic fans like to see in the club's strikers. Of course, if he scores a ton of goals, that will be overlooked. But if he does not, it is going to be pointed out quite often.
If Hogh struggles, Shim Mheuka is someone who might end up getting more playing time than initially expected. And interestingly, it is a former Rangers player who helped convince him on a move to Celtic.
Former Rangers player helped Celtic sign Mheuka
According to The Scottish Sun, Mheuka named Mikey Moore as someone who played a part in his moving to Scotland. The Celtic loanee said:
“I’ve been part of the England squads with Mikey so I watched his games from last year.
“He’s a good friend of mine so I spoke to him before I came here and he told me it’s a beautiful city and I’d really enjoy it.
“It’s more about what’s best for me than what Mikey has done and what was the best next step in my development.
“But it helped that Mikey is a good friend and did really well.
“He told me I was on the wrong side of Glasgow but I told him, no I’m on the right side of the city!”
While Mheuka came through the youth ranks at Chelsea, Moore did the same at Tottenham Hotspur, both London clubs. The two would have known each other from England youth international teams as well.
Can Mheuka outdo Moore?
Moore has spent time on loan at Rangers from Tottenham Hotspur in the past and scored seven goals for them last season.
It remains to be seen if Mheuka ends up bettering that figure. It had looked like he had opened his account in the previous game against St Mirren, only for it to be ruled out even though VAR was not working properly.
It was an excellent finish from Mheuka though, who had shown a lot of composure leading up to the finish as well.
And in general, he has looked like a player who can make a difference for Celtic, if given a chance, in the brief cameos he has made so far.
There are some who had expected him to get his first start against St Johnstone today. But he has been left on the bench in favour of Hogh, who has gone straight into the starting XI following a return from injury. Let's hope that he puts in a promising performance ahead of the Glasgow Derby at the weekend.
