Celtic fans are not happy with a decision Martin O'Neill has made against the Rangers.

Celtic will enter this Glasgow Derby knowing that they cannot afford to lose. The Hoops lost 3-0 to Rangers at Ibrox last weekend. That was followed by a loss at home in their Europa League opener against Ferencvaros.

A third straight defeat and questions will be asked about Martin O'Neill's future in the Parkhead hot seat. And it appears that has led him to make some defensive decisions against the Rangers.

O'Neill has fielded what looks like a three-man backline in Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales, with two wing-backs in the form of Colby Donovan and Kieran Tierney.

On the other hand, the manager has shored up the options in the middle of the park as well while not naming any traditional wingers in the lineup.

Camilo Duran has gotten the nod to lead the line, which is a decision everybody will agree with. But there are others which have not gone down well with a section of the support.

Celtic fans unhappy with Martin O'Neill's decision against Rangers

One Celtic fan wrote regarding the lineup O'Neill has fielded against the Rangers: "He’s got this one so wrong and he learns nothing."

Another said: "Not against a change of system but McCowan needs to step up massively to justify being selected, although probably just means more half time changes when it goes wrong."

A third added: "McCowan? We get everything we deserve today."

So, it would be safe to say that the supporters are not really confident about the team going into the game against the Rangers.

Part of that has to be the result we saw last weekend. But also, another large part has to be the fact that quite a few of these players are not highly rated.

Luke McCowan is not a popular figure right now

Luke McCowan simply has not been able to impress with his recent performances. And the fact that O'Neill has called him into the starting XI to take on the Rangers is a risky move to say the very least.

At the end of the day, this could go very right or completely wrong. And as things stand, most seem to be leaning towards the latter.

The selection goes to show that O'Neill is scrambling for any ideas right now, having seen his team struggle so badly in recent times.

In many ways, it feels like they have never recovered from that 5-1 defeat away against LASK in the second leg of the Champions League play-off.

Unfortunately for Celtic, McCowan was one of those who had a night to forget on that occasion. Hopefully, he does a lot better this time around. Otherwise, the noise coming out of the game is not going to be fun for O'Neill and his coaching team.
