It looks like the striker is ready to turn down other clubs in order to return to Celtic next season.

Celtic supporters have been left disappointed by the club's lack of activity to start the summer transfer window. The hope had been that some lessons had been learned from the failures of previous seasons and adjustments would be made.

Unfortunately, that does not seem to have been the case. In fact, one could argue that they have not even met minimum expectations so far.

No noteworthy signings have been made. Nothing even appears to be close. And no matter what you think of the Rangers, work is being done at Ibrox right now to catch up to Celtic.

That was the case last summer as well. Yes, they fell short once again. But that was not for lack of effort when it comes to their recruitment. At some point, it will fall into place. And when it does, Celtic cannot afford to be caught off guard.

Striker is giving priority to Celtic over other clubs

One of the things that was a minimum expectation coming into this summer was for the contract situation of Kelechi Iheanacho to be sorted. The Nigerian striker had been signed on a one-year deal with the option for another year.

But despite Iheanacho's exceptional end to the season, that option has not been taken up by Celtic, leaving his future up in the air. Fortunately, it looks like he is still interesting in staying at Parkhead.

According to Football Insider, Iheanacho is keen to stay at Celtic for another season if a fresh contract offer is made.

Iheanacho already have a number of clubs interested in him. But the Nigerian striker is giving "priority" to a return to Celtic.

Kelechi Iheanacho deserves a contract extension

Iheanacho might have endured a slow start to life at Celtic, with fitness issues and injuries playing a large part in that. The sudden departure of Brendan Rodgers would not have helped either.

One of the key reasons Iheanacho was signed last summer was because of the past success he had enjoyed while working with Rodgers.

That being said, Ihenacho certainly found his stride in the second half of the season. There was a lot of talk about him not starting games, but that did not stop him from making an impact.

Ihenacho scored numerous winners coming off the bench towards the end of the season. Without those, Celtic would not have even remained in the title race by the end of the campaign.

Playing him off the bench might very well have been a strategy on the part of O'Neill, rather than a lack of fitness.

Celtic not handing him the automatic extension might have just been a case of them wanting to renegotiate the terms of the deal, considering the little football he played. That being said, he deserves an extension.
