Derek McInnes faces a hostile Tynecastle return as third-placed Hearts aim to close the gap on Rangers in a high-stakes Premiership battle for second spot this Wednesday.

Second-placed Scottish Premiership side Rangers travel to Tynecastle Park when fellow club, third-placed side Heart of Midlothian, host the Gers in a top-flight fixture on Wednesday.

Hearts, who will be entering the fixture on the back of a 2-0 victory against Motherwell, will be aiming for nothing less than a victory against Rangers. A win on Wednesday would bring Wouter Vrancken's side to just one point behind Derek McInnes’ side; Hearts are currently on 19 points on the league table accumulated over 10 fixtures, while Rangers have accumulated 23 points in the same time.

Rangers' trip will be the first instance that Derek McInnes will be facing his former side after leaving the club during the course of the summer, and it is expected that the manager will receive a hostile reception from the Tynecastle crowd.

Entering the fixture on the back of a 4-0 victory registered against St. Johnstone, Rangers will be hopeful that its impeccable defence will again prove brilliant as they go up against one of the best attacking teams in the league. A win for the side would increase the gap between themselves and Hearts, leaving them comfortably placed at second, and in title contention with league leaders Celtic.
