Earlier on today (Monday the 10th of August 2026), Rangers chairman confirmed that the club are planning to make between 3-5 new signings this summer.
It cannot be overstated how much of a disaster the start of the Derek McInnes era has been for Rangers.
A 1-1 draw away to Dundee United on opening day was followed up by a Europa League qualifying first leg defeat away to Polish side Jagiellonia, and then in the first home game of the season, Hibernian scored a last minute dagger on the counter attack to inflict a 2-1 defeat and just one point from two Scottish Premiership games, already leaving the team five points behind Celtic.
Therefore, naturally there is an expectation - well a demand - from the Ibrox faithful that additions are made, and as quickly as possible. Ideally before the second leg on Thursday evening.
Well, there is some good news on that front. Indeed so, as at today's shareholder meeting. Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh confirmed the club will still look to add "three to five" new players this window.
He did not specify in which positions, but there are a few things that point to wide areas. To begin, CEO Jim Gillespie admitted that the club hadn't consciously prioritised players in central areas (with the recruitment so far), whilst Rangers Review have reported that the club have an agreement in principle to sign Moroccan winger Couhaib Driouech from PSV, who primarily operates off the left wing.
Meanwhile, they also mentioned that the club intent to recruit another right winger who can compete with new signing Daisuke Yokota, so it is good to see a big issue in the side being focused on.
In terms of other positions, the club could definitely do with a player at the base of the midfield. The team has lacked that profile of player since Steven Davis, who played 35 times and started on 29 occasions during the title win back in 20/21.
It's cliche, but you just see some of the goals the team concede and think that someone who can put out fires is needed. The Hibs winner is a good example of that. Although Cameron Devlin covers ground, he is more someone to cover ground and get in someone's face higher up the pitch. The team needs someone who can more so screen the back line. Even if he stays, that is not Nicolas' Raskin's game, as was proven on Sunday.
Five goals conceded in three games looks bad on the defence, and it is, but they do not get enough protection from the midfield, or even close to that.
