An English football legend has surprisingly made the claim tipping Manchester City's Jack Grealish for a move north of the border to one of the Old Firm clubs.

It's safe to say that, after an absolutely horrendous start to the season, and rotten luck on the injury front, Rangers need signings and they they need them as fast as possible.

You could say that signings are needed before it's too late, but some would argue is it's already too late. There won't be any UEFA Europa League football at Ibrox next season, and Celtic are already five points clear in the Scottish Premiership.

Well, one player who has been tipped for a move to the club may well take you by surprise. Indeed so, as former Newcastle United and Marseille midfielder, Chris Waddle, has tipped Rangers to sign Manchester City outcast, Jack Grealish.

The 65-year old said: "Can you imagine Jack Grealish at Celtic or Rangers? That would add another spark to the Scottish game. It would liven things up - wouldn't it? The only trouble for Celtic or Rangers would be wages.

I doubt they could pay even half of what he'd be asking for but it would be a thing for Celtic or Rangers. I'm sure teams have approached Manchester City about doing a deal for Jack Grealish, and if he was happy to drop his wages, maybe they'd [another club] have signed him on a two or three year contract somewhere else."

Well, it's an interesting name to raise from Waddle. You can imagine Grealish getting the Ibrox crowd going. A maverick, an entertainer who gets people off their seats - if you get the player from Aston Villa anyway, perhaps not the one we saw at the Etihad. He did show glimpses with Everton last season, before an injury in January finished his season very early.

But, he does touch on it himself. The wages would make a deal basically impossible to do. Some people suggest that the soon to be 31 year old is on 300k a week at City. At best, Rangers could pay a third of that, and even then, that does not feel overly likely.

But well, you never know. If City get a fee for him, perhaps they would be willing to pay some of his wages, so it is never impossible. And considering how much his career is stagnating, perhaps he would be willing to take a pay cut in order to try and get things back on track. He has certainly earned enough money throughout his career. Still, feels highly, highly unlikely.
