Rangers boss Derek McInnes has been given a very straightforward warning in regards to the winter transfer window and the business, or otherwise that Rangers will be looking to complete.

After a very difficult start to life at Ibrox which at one point seemed irredeemable, Derek McInnes does appear to have very much steadied the ship at Rangers.

The team have won all of their last seven games, with six of those having come in the league, and that run of form includes two Old Firm games, one at home and one away, one in the league and one in the cup, and both coming with clean sheets. Perfect.

In those wins, the summer recruitment has been key. The win over Kilmarnock saw Kevin Kelsy get his second goal since signing from MLS side Portland Timbers, whilst left back James Penrice registered his second assist and third goal contribution since joining from Greek side AEK Athens on loan.

Meanwhile, midfielder Dan Neil scored two goals in the Premiership Old Firm, and he also wore the captains armband that day. So, it is clear that, after a summer with a large turnover, perhaps even more so than expected, the new signings have really managed to get their feet under the table and settle into life at Ibrox.

However, it looks as if they will not be joined by more of the same in the winter transfer window. Indeed so, as chairman Andrew Cavenagh, whilst speaking to fan representatives on Saturday (as relayed by the Daily Record) said: "Don't expect much activity in January unless something happens which means they need to go into the market.

Focus for the club is on stability and continuity after a volatile first season and the summer. That includes on the pitch and off it and holding for incremental improvement in all areas rather than wholesale changes again."

This seems fair enough. As touched on, there was a huge turnover in the summer, with 14 new additions coming through the door. That is a lot, especially with a new manager in as well.

You want to let the players get used to playing together and to build chemistry. That is not easy. To then continue to add more players would be flying close to the sun. So, this feels the sensible approach.

The wording suggests that injuries would be the one thing that could change that approach, which is also fair. It feels unlikely that Rangers would have gone for Kelsy had Youssef Chermiti not suffered an ACL injury, considering Lawrence Shankland also came through the door this summer, as well as the winter arrival of Ryan Don Naderi.
