According to reports from the Scottish media on Friday (the 14th of August, 2026), Rangers agreement to sign winger from the Netherlands has fallen through.
It really feels like the universe is against Rangers at this moment in time.
The team have failed to win any of their opening four games of the season, are five points off of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, and have been dumped out of the Europa League in the third round of qualifying despite having a squad value of 40m more than their Polish counterparts.
Then, on top of that, striker Youssef Chermiti ruptured his ACL in the defeat at home to Hibernian last weekend, and left-back Tuur Rommens is set to be out for a number of weeks, as well as central defender Ben Godrey.
Well, when it rains it pours at Ibrox. Indeed so, as it is being reported by Sky Sports Scotland and various other media outlets that the deal to sign PSV winger, Couhaib Driouech, has now fallen through.
Although the 24-year old was at the game on Thursday evening, it is said that an injury was flagged in his medical that will rule him out for "several weeks", and therefore the deal is now off.
A lot of people in the Rangers fanbase are refusing to believe this. They think that, having been at the game last night, they think the player and/or his agent realised what they had got themselves into, and decided they didn't want to be apart of it. Honestly, if that is true, can you actually blame him?
That absolute shower would be enough to put any player off. His agent was probably on the phone to other clubs offering the services of his client. He does not get regular game time at PSV, so it is best for him to move on, but ideally for him, somewhere other than Rangers.
There is the possibility that it is genuinely true. It is not unheard of for injuries to come up during medical tests. This has happened a number of times with Italian giants AC Milan, namely Jean-Phillippe Mateta in January of this year, as well as Victor Boniface the year before.
It is important for clubs to do their due diligence during medicals. There shouldn't be any "That doesn't look perfect, but should be ok" - anything that is not right should be treated as such, so if that is actually the case, then fair play to the club for that.
Nevertheless, at least one alternative option needs signing as soon as possible. Perhaps two.
