Rangers can sign one of their longtime transfer targets for free next year upon contract expiry.

Despite adding 14 new players to their squad, Rangers are still feeling left out following some unfortunate injuries early on in the season.

With barely a month into the new campaign, new manager Derek McInnes might have to play to back-to-back Glasgow derbies without the services of his top three forwards.

Youssef Chermiti, the Teddy Bears' top scorer last season, has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season, whereas their captain Lawrence Shankland's recent injury will keep the experienced center-forward out for a period of around three to four months.

Now, Daisuke Yokota's groin injury has also handed McInnes a major concern ahead of the Light Blues' Scottish League Cup quarter-final clash against Celtic this Sunday.

As a result, the club management is already looking at options to fill in the voids left by their top forwards during the winter transfer window.

Oskar Fallenius is one player who has been on the Gers' radar for some time now and in spite of multiple efforts during the previous transfer windows, the Glaswegian side have failed to bring in the Swedish international to Ibrox.

That could change at the start of next year, as the 24-year-old forward will be a free agent if he doesn't extend his contract with his current side, Djurgarden.

During a recent interview with Swedish outlet Aftonbladet, Fallenius talked about his future desires, saying, "I have planned to stay here until the contract expires and then we can take it from there.

"But we have a pretty big range right now, and I have ambitions. But I've been here for three and a half years now, and I think I'll get a clear feeling after the season, so we'll see what's best for me and Djurgarden."

Fallenius has certainly made his intentions clear with this recent revelation, and Rangers might already be working on a more attractive contract for the winger during the next couple of months.

The 24-year-old has already scored four goals and provided three assists this season, as Djurgarden carry on with their efforts to finish on top of the Allsvenskan, the Swedish premier division, by the end of this campaign.

Fallenius' current contract will run out at the end of this year if the Swedish side fail to provide him with a lucrative contract by the end of that timeline.

As for the Gers, if they are able to convince the Swede this time around, they will not only have a quality winger at their helm to strengthen the squad for the second half of the season.

But a free transfer also gives the Ibrox side an opportunity to add a significant amount to their treasury if Fallenius leaves later on, a win-win situation for the Light Blues if they can actually convince him this time.
