Aberdeen await a specialist verdict on Connor Ronan’s knee injury as defensive absences mount before their cup semi-final against Rangers.
Aberdeen face fresh injury concern before their clash against Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final after Connor Ronan damaged his medial knee ligament, subsequently requiring a specialist assessment.
Stephen Robinson faces significant restrictions in the defensive third, and the manager confirmed the midfielder will miss Wednesday's Premiership meeting against Falkirk. Unfortunately for the gaffer, Ronan's availability for Saturday's game remains unresolved.
He went on to admit uncertainty after the scans identified Ronan's injury following the 3-2 defeat to Dundee United. The manager vocalised his worries after the game: "There is certainly a concern about Connor."
Ronan's absence will affect the Dandies, as he offered the second equaliser against Dundee before Zac Sapsford sealed the victory for the home side. The fixture against the Gers is set for the 31st of October, with kick-off scheduled for 5.30pm.
The winners will move on to the finals and will face either Hearts or Hibernian in the final on the 13th of December. Nevertheless, the problems don't stop there for Robinson, who's also awaiting a specialist consultation for Mats Knoester.
Scans on the Dutch footballer have revealed a tendon problem following his thigh injury during training. The Aberdeen gaffer confirmed that Knoester will remain out for the next two games, pushing him out of contention for Hampden.
Lewis Mayo also won't be available for at least two months due to a fractured foot. Dan Happe, on the other hand, is also facing suspension despite recovering from the virus that has affected the squad.
Likewise, Kristers Tobers remains a viable option after being sidelined by a knee injury. However, the Latvian footballer's return last week was disrupted by an illness. Now, his comeback depends on recovery and physical fitness.
Nevertheless, Robinson still has Jack Milne and Gavin Molloy, although they remain the only centre-backs definitely available for the upcoming games. The manager has also encountered a lack of consistency following multiple changes.
He admitted the problem but nevertheless maintained that the remaining players could have a competitive display. For Rangers, though, this is good news as McInnes might have a lighter day in a semi-final.
However, Aberdeen does have the attacking firepower to compensate for the lack of men in the defensive third. Hence, Rangers will have to be careful, as they've equalised twice at Tannadice.
The official updates will be a source of important information for McInnes before Saturday, with the Scottish manager looking ahead to continue their winning streak on Wednesday with a game against Hearts, and he will then be keen on doing the same on the weekend.
