Starving for minutes at Middlesbrough, sidelined midfielder Connor Barron faces a pivotal January crossroads as Rangers consider a tactical rescue mission to reignite his stalling development elsewhere.
According to a report by Football Insider, Rangers might be forced to recall Connor Barron early from his loan spell at Championship side Middlesbrough as he is yet to receive any game time since the start of the new season. Barron's chances of featuring in the upcoming matches for The Boro look bleak as head coach Kim Hellberg is unlikely to shuffle the pack and risk dropping from the third place in the league standings.
Despite Middlesbrough's strong start in the first eight fixtures of the Championship season, Rangers are not happy with one of their loanees being sidelined out of the action during these clashes. Barron got over 1500 minutes last season with the Gers and he is yet to play a single minute of competitive football this term.
Considering this scenario, the Scottish giants are still putting faith on Middlesbrough to give him minutes soon and they will evaluate an early recall option till the January transfer window. However, he will not be finding any space at the club if he is brought back, but will be sent out on loan again, possibly, at a much more reliable destination where he can make an impact.
Rangers head coach Derek McInnes puts the likes of Dan Neil, Nicolas Raskin, Tochi Chukwuani and Vanja Dragojevic above Barron in the pecking order for the midfield department. This makes it clear that the 24-year-old midfielder from Aberdeenshire has zero chances of featuring for his parent club this season unless they are hit by a major injury crisis.
Barron's future at Rangers will be soon discussed as a major topic since at the end of his loan spell, he will have only one year left on his current contract. It is unlikely that the Glasgow-based outfit extends his stay, and he could leave the club permanently next summer to avoid a free transfer later.
Elsewhere, Rangers are pursuing a loan deal for Arsenal prodigy Max Dowman, as per a report by Roundtable. The youngest ever Premier League goalscorer is also being quoted by rivals Celtic, as the Gunners boss Mikel Arteta could open up the doors for the player to go out and develop somewhere with regular game time.
The Light Blues are searching for a versatile winger like Dowman, and they could launch a significant offer in January to seal the deal for the Arsenal man. However, it rests entirely on Arteta's management.
