In a very honest and transparent recent interview, a Serie A midfielder has confessed that he really hopes to play for Rangers at some stage of his career.

It's safe to say that Rangers need bodies in the door as soon as possible. Signings are urgently needed to try and save the season, if it is not already too late.

One player that they may eventually end up signing, though not in this window, is Bologna and Scotland national team midfielder, who recently spoke about his ambitions to play for Rangers one day.

In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, via SportWitness, the 26-year old spoke very openly about his desire to play at Ibrox: "I haven't thought about a [contract] renewal. My focus right now is football - I don't want to think about contracts or anything else. Then, if there's something to discus, we'll talk."

Ferguson spoke about Rangers in very glowing terms: "It's my favourite team, and I've always said I want to play for Rangers. One day - though I don't know when yet - it will definitely happen if I get the chance." He also spoke about his love for Glasgow, but also admitted that he loves live over in Bologna, with his daughter being born in the city and given an Italian name in Lorena.

At the moment, the former Aberdeen man has two years left on his contract, so if there is no renewal by this time next year, perhaps the Serie A side may have to consider cashing in, and that's where Rangers could - in theory - swoop in for a cut fee, though you would imagine he will not be short of interest. His love for the club could help out in that regard.

Right now, Ferguson is one of several Scottish players playing in Italy. Throughout the league you have Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour at Napoli, Che Adams at Torino, Josh Doig at Sassuolo, etc. Some have been and gone too, Al-Ettifaq centre back Jack Hendry played for Cremonese, and Brentford full back Aaron Hickey also played for Bologna. Add a fair few English players out there too, and there is a lot of British representation.

Back in May of 2025, Ferguson captained Bologna to a 1-0 win over giants AC Milan in the Coppa Italia final, winning them their first trophy in 51 years, very impressive. Before they played Aston Villa in the UEFA Europa League last season, he gave his press conference in Italian, which was pretty cool to see. Good on him. Let's hope we see him in a Rangers shirt one day.
