Ryan Jack reveals how Nicolas Raskin viewed Rangers as a tactical stepping stone, harbouring bold ambitions to swap the Scottish Premiership for a dream Chelsea transfer.
According to a report by media outlet TransferFeed, Scottish footballer and former Rangers star Ryan Jack has said on a podcast on Go Radio that current Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin joined the club with hopes of using the club as a stepping stone to secure a further move to a bigger club. According to Jack, Raskin wanted to play for Chelsea in his career and that he was using Rangers to help him achieve his dream.
Raskin has established himself as one of the integral parts of the Rangers squad ever since joining the club back in 2023 from Belgian club Standard Liège. However, over the last two seasons, the midfielder has experienced a significant reduction in playing time allotted to him after rumours of him leaving Ibrox gained traction in the media. The rumours grew strong enough to convince then-manager Russell Martin to drop the Belgian midfielder from the squad in the early months of 2025, as the player was allegedly distracted by other opportunities. However, no transfer materialised, and Raskin ended up remaining at the club, despite the player showing good performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In the programme on Go Radio, Jack revealed that Raskin, for his part, was quite upfront about his ambitions to join Chelsea and that he had a clear transfer plan in mind. However, it is worth noting that the plan has not yet materialised.
Raskin arrived at Ibrox in January 2023, towards the end of Jack’s time at the club, and Jack left the club upon the termination of his contract in 2024. The two players played 23 games together before the departure of the latter.
Raskin has made 101 official league appearances for the club since his arrival, scoring 11 goals in the process. He has been an integral part of the squad since then, and has helped the club finish as the runners-up in the 2022-23 Scottish League Cup competition.
In addition to his club career, Raskin has also played 20 official games for the Belgium National Football Team, representing them at the 2026 FIFA World Cup held in the United States of America. The player has also played for the youth squads of the team from the U-15 level through to the U-21 level, before making his debut for the senior squad in 2025.
Whether Nicolas Raskin manages to secure a move to a club bigger in stature in comparison to Rangers remains speculation; however, as confirmed by Jack, Raskin’s wishes are well known to the public and may help in attracting attention from other clubs.
