Clinton Nsiala has left Rangers for Sharjah on a two-year contract after failing to break into Derek McInnes’ plans at Ibrox this season.

Clinton Nsiala has completed a permanent move from Rangers to Sharjah FC, ending his time at Ibrox just over two years after arriving from AC Milan. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the 22-year-old defender has signed a two-year contract with the United Arab Emirates club.

The move follows a summer in which Nsiala was unable to establish himself in Derek McInnes’ plans. He has not featured for the Light Blues' first team this season, while his former No.19 shirt has been handed to Kevin Kelsy.

Although Scotland’s transfer window closed earlier this month, clubs operating to different registration deadlines remained potential destinations. Sharjah’s announcement has settled the Frenchman’s future after he returned to Glasgow following a loan spell in Belgium.

Nsiala joined KVC Westerlo in February on a deal until the end of the 2025/26 campaign, with the Belgian side holding an option to buy. That move reunited him with former Rangers coach Issame Charai.

Nsiala had just made three appearances during the campaign at the time of that loan. A move abroad offered the chance to build experience, but his return did not produce a route into McInnes’ side.

The Gers originally announced Nsiala’s pre-contract signing in June 2024, with the defender joining the following month. He followed Jefte and Oscar Cortes through the door as the club’s third addition of that summer transfer window.

After progressing through Nantes’ academy, Nsiala moved to Milan in 2021 and became a regular for their under-19 side, starting nine matches during their run to the 2024 UEFA Youth League final.

Nsiala also featured in several Serie A matchday squads under Stefano Pioli before leaving Italy. Then recruitment director Nils Koppen described the defender as an exciting talent and said he was confident he could progress under Clement and the coaching staff in Glasgow.

Nsiala scored his first Rangers goal in the 5-0 Scottish Cup victory over Fraserburgh in January 2025, finding the net on only his fourth appearance for the club. Yet those early opportunities did not translate into a sustained role at Ibrox.

His subsequent loan and absence from McInnes’ team this season further signify how far he had slipped from the first-team picture. Nevertheless, the departure brings an end to a development project that never became a lasting part of their defensive plans.

Nsiala, likewise, will be making a fresh start in the UAE, where his goal will include getting regular senior minutes, which proved elusive at Ibrox.
