Couhaib Driouech is reportedly finalising an £7m Celta Vigo move after his proposed Rangers transfer collapsed following a medical.
Couhaib Driouech is reportedly closing in on a permanent move to Celta Vigo after his proposed transfer to Rangers collapsed at the medical stage. Voetbal International reports that PSV Eindhoven were working with Celta to complete a deal, with the 24-year-old omitted from their matchday squad against FC Groningen while talks advanced.
Eindhovens Dagblad and De Telegraaf have placed the prospective fee at approximately £7m. An agreement between the clubs is understood to be in place, although Driouech must still settle personal terms and pass a medical before the move is completed.
That would bring a swift conclusion to a difficult fortnight for the winger. Rangers had reportedly agreed a similar fee with PSV and prepared a four-year contract after Driouech travelled to Glasgow, attended a game at Ibrox and underwent medical checks.
The Light Blues then withdrew after identifying a thigh problem, which they believed could rule him out for around six weeks. PSV disputed that timeframe publicly, maintaining that the issue was minor and that Driouech would return much sooner.
Driouech subsequently explained that a small tear in his thigh had been aggravated by a blow to the knee, causing a haematoma. He returned to full training with PSV last week and was considered physically available for Sunday's fixture.
Likewise, his absence against Groningen was instead attributed to the proposed Celta transfer. PSV signed the Moroccan youth international in 2024 with a contract running till 2029. He arrived from Excelsior and went on to make 61 appearances for Eindhoven.
The 24-year-old was set to become a major attacking addition to Derek McInnes' frontline. However, the Gers' assessment of the minor injury turned out to be a risk they weren't willing to take.
Since then, though, the Light Blues have turned their attention to Southern Europe. Girona winger Kim Min-su is being hailed as a done deal by multiple outlets. The Athletic reported that Rangers were going to meet the 20-year-old's release clause of approximately £8.5m.
The Ibrox side had tried their luck with earlier offers around £6m to £7m but failed to convince the Catalan club. With McInnes clearly interested in signing another winger, the Korean seems to fit the Scotsman's plans, with no injury scares.
However, the deal hasn't been confirmed yet and might still turn out to be a false call if things turn out like Driouech's visit to Glasgow. Nevertheless, Rangers are still making strides in the market to assemble the best squad they can before September, as pressure mounts on McInnes to keep building on his recent wins.
