Derek McInnes has praised Nicolas Raskin’s attitude as Rangers wait to discover whether the Belgian midfielder will leave Ibrox this week.

Derek McInnes has praised Nicolas Raskin’s professionalism as Rangers wait to discover whether the midfielder will leave Ibrox before Thursday’s transfer deadline. Raskin was omitted from the matchday squads against Jablonec and Aberdeen amid growing interest in the Belgian international, but Rangers have yet to receive an offer they consider acceptable.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Falkirk, McInnes made clear that the uncertainty had not affected the 25-year-old’s approach behind the scenes. “Nico’s been first-class since he came back from the World Cup – he’s been good as gold, he’s trained brilliantly,” the Rangers manager said.

McInnes added that conversations have taken place with prospective buyers, although the situation remains unchanged until a bid arrives, which forces the Ibrox hierarchy into a decision.

Previous reports have linked Raskin with Atalanta, Bologna, Hull City and Real Betis. Interest alone, however, does not prove useful to the Light Blues unless it develops into terms that reflect his importance and remaining contract.

A significant sale would provide a substantial return on a player signed from Standard Liège in January 2023, but keeping Raskin would preserve proven quality in midfield. At 25 and with two years left on his deal, the Belgian remains an asset Rangers cannot afford to undervalue.

That position is stronger because there is little need to accept poor terms. His return from an impressive World Cup only strengthened the expectation of a summer move. Yet with the Scottish window closing at 5 pm on Thursday, time is beginning to favour a stay unless talks accelerate rapidly.

The manager’s comments should also reassure supporters about what would follow if no deal materialises. McInnes believes Raskin would remain fully committed and has made it clear that he wants to work with good players.

That will help a side still searching for rhythm after a difficult campaign opening. Rangers secured their first Premiership win of the season at Aberdeen on Sunday, but European elimination against Jablonec was another hard blow to a rocky start. McInnes will also be off the touchline for the next two games, adding to the problem.

Nevertheless, there is little value in accepting a cut-price proposal simply because the deadline is approaching. Raskin is one of the club’s most valuable assets, and Rangers must ensure any exit makes sporting and financial sense.

For now, Raskin’s future at Rangers remains unresolved. Unless an acceptable bid lands, the midfielder will be expected to return to contention and help Rangers build on that victory at Pittodrie.
