Ivor Pandur says Rangers had been interested in him for years before he signed for £6 million this summer. The Croatian goalkeeper has kept seven clean sheets in seven Premiership matches.
Rangers have received an admission from a recent signing who cost £6 million (around $8 million). The 26-year-old Croatian goalkeeper, Ivor Pandur, recently spoke about his move to Rangers this summer and confessed that the Ibrox side had been interested in him for several years.
The player said that even while he was at Fortuna Sittard, people from Rangers were already asking about him, but he eventually moved to England when he signed for Hull City in 2024. Pandur played for Fortuna Sittard from 2022 to 2024.
He said, “It was very easy to sign for the Rangers - we agreed everything quickly, and everything turned out great. In two or three days, I had my medical, signed, and joined the team. You don’t really know how big Rangers are until you get there. Then you see the people around and inside the club, and it becomes clear to you."
“Rangers were interested in me for a few years- even when I was in the Netherlands at Fortuna Sittard, the directors who were there at the time were contacting me and asking questions. But they brought Jack Butland in, and I went to England, and that was basically it for those two and a half years, until Jack Butland went to Hull and I went to Rangers!"
“The deciding factor was that I wanted to fight for trophies and be on a dominant team. I had European competitions in my head, unfortunately, which didn’t happen, at least this season. I wanted to compete with the best. Even though the league is not the English Premier League - and I absolutely understand that - the Premier League wouldn’t mean much to me if I didn’t play as much as I wanted to play.”
This season, the Croatian goalkeeper has been Rangers’ starting keeper, so he's been key to the good run the Ibrox side is on. He has already made 13 appearances, all as a starter.
Last season, Pandur played 48 matches for Hull City, but after the team was promoted to the Premier League, they strengthened that position with other players, such as former Olympiacos keeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, who, as of today, after five Premier League matchdays, is standing out as the best goalkeeper in the league, or at least as one of the best.
Therefore, the logical move was for Pandur to join a team where he could seek a more prominent role, and Rangers again came through, offering him, under coach Derek McInnes, a key role this season.
In the two matches they have played against Celtic this season, on September 13 and September 20, Pandur did not concede any goals. On September 13, they defeated Celtic 3-0 in the League Cup quarter-finals, eliminating them from the competition; on September 20, they defeated The Hoops 1-0 at Parkhead in a Scottish Premiership match.
This season in the Premiership, Pandur has already recorded seven clean sheets in seven matches and has conceded only four goals. In total, he has recorded 14 saves and a save percentage of 77.8%.
