RB Salzburg have reportedly submitted an offer for Rangers winger Djeidi Gassama as the transfer deadline approaches at Ibrox this week.

RB Salzburg have reportedly submitted an offer to sign Rangers winger Djeidi Gassama before the Scottish transfer window closes. Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna reported on X that the Austrian club have proposed the Light Blues, with other sides also remaining in the race.

The value and structure of Salzburg’s offer have not been disclosed. The approach follows further Foot Mercato reports that Monza and Parma each saw £6m bids rejected. The French outlet added that Rangers are prepared to sell Gassama, but want at least £8.5m for the 22-year-old.

Gassama joined from Sheffield Wednesday for a reported £2m in July 2025 and signed a four-year contract, leaving the Ibrox club in a strong negotiating position with three years remaining.

Salzburg’s interest carries a personal dimension, as Röhl coached the winger at Wednesday before their reunion in Glasgow. Subsequently, the German manager moved to Austria in June.

Gassama previously described Röhl as being “like a father” to him and credited the coach with helping his development. The timing nevertheless complicates the decision for Derek McInnes.

The Mauritanian international had a big hand in getting the Scottish manager his first Premiership win. He drove Rangers forward on the counter against Aberdeen, winning the second-half penalty converted by Lawrence Shankland.

He's played all of the Gers' three league games this season and was on the pitch for a full 90 minutes against the Dandies. Gassama created the most chances (3) and also had the most touches in the opposition box (7) at Pittodrie.

His pace was one of the central parts of the attacking display from McInnes' side as he played alongside Minsu Kim and Findlay Curtis behind Shankland. Likewise, a sale might be hard to reach for Kohl, with McInnes just getting a hint of the balanced three-man setup up front.

The Light Blues did sign Minsu and Daisuke Yokota to solve some depth problems at Ibrox, giving the club immediate replacements if Gassama departs. However, despite the multiple options at his disposal, the Scotsman will have to think through the decision before making the sale.

Nevertheless, Rangers are looking at a substantial profit after just 13 months of signing the player. These funds could help McInnes buy further additions to the squad where he thinks work is still needed.

A sale closer to the rejected price, though, might not be in the club's best interest. Likewise, with Scotland's window closing at 5 pm on 3 September, Rangers will have to decide quickly.
