Nottingham Forest defender David Carmo is set to return to Olympiacos on a permanent deal, according to reports. The 27-year-old is 'locked in' to rejoin the Greek club.
Nottingham Forest F.C. is about to complete the transfer of one of its defenders, who will head to Olympiacos F.C., according to recent reports.
The Greek giant is preparing for a season in which it does not plan to repeat the mistakes of the previous campaign. To do so, they want to have a competitive squad that stands out at both the European and local levels.
On Friday, they officially announced the signing of Argentine right-back Pablo Maffeo, and a few days ago, they officially announced the return of Konstantinos Fortounis after his time in Saudi football.
Now, everything points to the third signing Jose Luis Mendilibar's team will make, being a center-back, and recent reports suggest it could be a discard from Nottingham Forest: David Carmo.
Carmo, 27, already played for Olympiacos in two different periods. In the first, he was key to Thrylos being crowned UEFA Conference League champion, becoming the first Greek team to win a European title.
Well, according to journalist Nikos Kotsis, Carmo's signing for the Red and Whites is "locked in," after the Angolan player spoke with coach Mendilibar.
"David Carmo is preparing to wear the Red and White jersey again. And on a permanent basis. Something that emerges as a certainty, now from Portugal, but also from what has happened in recent days between the footballer and Jose Luis Mendilibar," the cited insider began explaining.
The report assures that it is a matter of days before the transfer is completed, after the player himself expressed his desire to return to Piraeus.
The transfer fee, or whether any money will be involved at all, remains unknown. It is worth remembering that Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos are both owned by Evangelos Marinakis, and it is highly likely that there will be certain advantages in facilitating this move.
For weeks, there had already been speculation about a potential return for Carmo. Considering he is under contract with Nottingham Forest until June 30, 2029, many expected another loan move. However, Kotsis' report states that the transfer will be permanent.
During the 2025-26 season, Carmo made 22 appearances for Real Oviedo in Spain, scoring one goal. His first half of the campaign was particularly impressive and resembled the level he showed during the 2023-24 season with the Red and Whites.
During the 2024-25 campaign, he spent the season on loan at Olympiacos, making 34 appearances and scoring once. Despite that, he was not the same player he had been during his first spell with the Greek club, and reports emerged suggesting he wanted to leave Greece.
Well, that now appears to be the complete opposite, as Kotsis reports that the player himself is pushing for a return to Piraeus after realizing that the best football of his career came there.
It now seems to be only a matter of time before the left-footed center back returns to the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.
