Leeds United and Hull City have joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the race for Olympiacos goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis. The 23-year-old Greek star could be on the move this summer.
The summer transfer window is approaching, and some European clubs are already working toward next season. While Olympiacos prepares to face the qualifying rounds for the UEFA Champions League, several Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on one of their stars.
According to reports, both Leeds United and the newly promoted side Hull City have joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.
Tzolakis, 23, has established himself as a key piece in Jose Luis Mendilibar's team since winning the UEFA Conference League two years ago. The young Greek goalkeeper's performance has not gone unnoticed in England.
According to the specialized site TransferFeed, Leeds United and Hull City are the latest clubs to have shown interest in the Chania native.
"It is reported that Leeds United has Konstantinos Tzolakis, a 23-year-old Greek goalkeeper, on its list and is considering whether to make an offer to Olympiacos," the cited outlet explained on Thursday.
They added, "Hull City is another English club that has Tzolakis on its list and is also evaluating a potential move."
Veteran Karl Darlow secured the starting spot at Leeds this season, making 22 appearances in the Premier League, compared to 16 for Lucas Perri, who, on paper, would be Daniel Farke's starting goalkeeper.
It seems logical that, ahead of next season, they are looking for a young goalkeeper who offers guarantees.
On the other hand, Hull City recently achieved promotion to the first tier of English soccer through the Championship playoffs.
They will clearly look to reinforce their squad with quality players to compete in the Premier League, following the example of Sunderland, who returned to the top tier in the summer and not only achieved survival but also qualified for the UEFA Europa League.
Still, a few months ago it was reported that Tzolakis had also aroused the interest of giants of English soccer, such as Arsenal and Liverpool.
According to a CaughtOffside report in February, both teams are interested in the Greek. "Liverpool is reportedly looking at him as a long-term replacement for Alisson Becker (...) Tzolakis has the quality to succeed in the Premier League, and he could be a very useful option for Liverpool," the cited outlet began explaining.
They added, "Arsenal are looking at the players as well (...) The Greek international could compete with the Spaniard for the starting spot, and more competition for places will help Arsenal improve as a team."
Tzolakis has an ongoing contract with Olympiacos that extends until June 2027, and his current market value is around $16.2 million, according to Transfermarkt. Any interested club will surely need to approach his market value to tempt the Greek giant.
