Olympiacos prepare a homecoming bid for Kostas Tsimikas as he faces a limited role under Liverpool's new leadership, spearheaded by Andoni Iraola.
Olympiacos prepare negotiations with Liverpool for the potential transfer of Kostas Tsimikas on a permanent deal this summer.
According to reports by the British media via Nikos Kotsis of Sport24.gr, new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola might be looking to sell Kostas Tsimikas during this transfer window.
Liverpool have Milos Kerkez as the first choice option in left-back, and the Greek international will have to feature as the next candidate for the role, therefore performing a limited role at the club in the new season. Neither Kerkez nor The Reds want to part ways with each other this summer, and this opens the door for Tsimikas to return to his former club.
Acquiring Greeks works well for Olympiacos as they need to get the most out of the players without breaching the non-EU quota. Tsimikas' transfer has emerged as a real possibility due to this factor; however, much will depend on what the Merseyside club decides in the coming days. The 30-year-old has yet to convey his decision regarding his future publicly, and the Red and Whites from Piraeus are waiting for the right moment to pounce on the opportunity.
Tsimikas began his career with his hometown club Neapoli Thessalonikis, and then moved on to Olympiacos' youth side in 2014. He made his debut for the senior team in a match against AEL Kalloni on 19 December 2015, before spending five seasons tied to the Greek giants, including loan spells at Danish side Esbjerg and Dutch outfits Willem II.
The Olympiacos youth graduate signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2020 for a reported £11.75 million transfer fee. He became the second Greek player in Liverpool's history to play for the club since Sotirios Kyrgiakos, who joined from AEK Athens in 2009. He spent last season on loan at AS Roma, featuring in 25 matches across all competitions throughout the campaign.
Thrylos are also looking for a right full-back to deputise for new signing Pablo Maffeo, who joined the club from Mallorca recently. Manolis Saliakis is one of the names on the list. However, Olympiacos must negotiate with German second division side FC St. Pauli for a transfer as he is a starter for them.
Elsewhere, the Piraeus-based side is lining up potential replacements in defence if first-choice centre back Lorenzo Pirola leaves the club, according to an earlier report by Roundtable. UD Almeria man Federico Bonini is the option currently being considered, but no concrete talks have been conducted yet.
