Olympiacos manager Imanol Alguacil faces a high-stakes test as the Red and Whites aim to bridge the five-point gap against their undefeated, league-leading eternal rivals Panathinaikos.

We are past the long international break now as the Derby of the Eternal Enemies takes centre stage at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium on October 11, 2026 (Sunday).

Olympiacos head into this clash after welcoming back their international contingent as Imanol Alguacil hopes to choose from a host of names, except for a few injuries. Following a slow start to the new season, the Red and Whites underwent a change in management as Jose Luis Mendilibar was sacked, giving way to a fellow Basque coach to take the reins of the squad.

Alguacil has led the team through three matches till now, registering two wins and a loss in his debut against OFI Crete. Olympiacos won against Levadiakos in their last match, with Manolis Saliakas netting from a header in added time to take the three points home. With three wins, one draw and a loss in their first five Super League Greece matches since the start of the campaign, Thrylos are currently at ten points, sitting fifth in the league standings, five points behind leaders Panathinaikos.

Armando 'La Hormiga' Gonzalez is expected to the lead the attacking lines upfront in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Roman Yaremchuk is set to be on the bench after starting against Levadiakos. Leon Bailey is yet to achieve full fitness, while the likes of Ayoub El Kaabi and Yusuf Yazici are nursing their long-term injuries.

Recent head-to-head record favours Olympiacos in this derby as they have claimed back-to-back victories over Panathinaikos. In the last ten meetings, the game ended in four wins for the Piraeus club, four draws and just two wins for Panathinaikos.

Despite the underwhelming record against their eternal rivals, Jacob Neestrup's men have been flying high at the top of the table with five wins out of the five played this season. However, the Karaiskakis faithful could easily overpower them with their support for the team, providing Olympiacos with the 'home advantage' that is ever so much important in these kinds of clashes.

As for Panathinaikos, they will be without the services of Levi Garcia, Sotiris Kontouris, Sverrir Ingi Ingason and Victor Kristiansen as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.

Here are the predicted line-ups for the derby between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos

Olympiacos (4-2-3-1): Ortega; Saliakas, Retsos, Carmo, Tiknizyan; Freuler, Puerta; Martins, Sa, Roca; Gonzalez.

Panathinaikos (4-2-3-1): Pena Sotorres; Calabria, de Vrij, van Drongelen, Kyriakopoulos; Kangwa, Camara; Rastoder, Ounahi, Andino; Tetteh.
