Armando Gonzalez started for Olympiacos in their 0-0 Europa League draw with Stade Rennais, where he showed a very visible improvement compared to his past matches.

On Wednesday, Olympiacos FC faced Stade Rennais FC (0-0) in matchday 4 of 8 of the UEFA Europa League, ending in a draw.

Thrylos arrived at Roazhon Park with a slight edge, having enjoyed a 9-match winning streak, while Rennes has struggled to maintain a winning streak since the season began.

For Wednesday's match, coach Imanol Alguacil had only two options to cover the center of attack, and the big question was who would start at forward.

Armando Gonzalez got the starting spot over Roman Yaremchuk. The other striker, Marius Mouandilmadji, isn't registered for the Europa League. With only two options left, Imanol chose the Mexican forward.

Fortunately for Gonzalez, who had not played minutes in two matches, he already seems to be showing Alguacil's hand more, as he looked much stronger and more skillful in the match than in previous ones.

In fact, in the first half of the match, in less than 1 minute, the forward tried to make a header that unfortunately went over the goal, but the spark was there.

Despite several attempts to win the tiebreaker, neither Gonzalez nor his teammates scored, so the match ended in a draw.

Armando Gonzalez and Roman Yaremchuk: Different Styles, Different Roles at Olympiacos

On social media, some fans were dismayed about Armando's future and why he wasn't chosen as a starter, but there is no reason to fear for the youngest's fate, since they play different styles and are chosen depending on the match.

The two players stand out for different reasons. Yaremchuk is a much more physical player; he can protect the ball, has a higher chance of winning aerial duels, attacks spaces inside the box, and has more experience.

And Gonzalez, for his part, specializes in appearing at the right moment when a goal is needed, standing out for his scoring instinct; he also plays well with both feet and uses tight spaces to attack between the gaps.

Now that Armando seems more capable, maybe we could see him as a starter in Olympiacos' upcoming commitments. The club will face PAOK FC on Sunday, Nov. 8, and Iraklis FC on Nov. 22 in the Greek Super League.
